new UV leds at mouser

i don’t know anything about these…
but here they are

I saw them announced on the Lumileds site last week, nice! It is pity though that there isn't one below 380nm.

I can’t bring myself to order from Mouser as the minimum they want for shipping is $12, I was going to order some Carlco optics and the shipping would have been more than the goods.

+1

I would like to find a source for 365 nm LEDs.

One interesting thing about these leds is “negative drop”,they give more than 200% of light at 200% of current->efficiency is higher at higher current (look at the graph for 500mA vs. 1000mA fro 385 and 395nm), which is really weird.

Uvleds do not have a phosfor, and you can indeed add that to make visible light, there is even something to be said for that because you can produce a visible spectrum without the 500nm dip, so even closer to incandescent (or sun) spectra. But uv-leds are still so much more inefficient than blue leds (that are used with phosfors to make white leds) that the small advantage of filling the 500nm gap just doesn't pay off (I do expect a uv-led based high CRI led enter the market one day though).

45% efficiency for 405-410nm isn’t that bad at all, considering this is 1mm^2 chip and undomed. So this is very close to royal blue.
But did you see the price of those uv’s?

Oh yes, I did . I had a mouser order recently, and would have included one to play with if they were not more than 20 dollars a piece. So yes, I see now that production costs may be more of a reason that those leds are not there than efficiency alone.

Damnit! Minimum shipping is $36 for me and I just ordered a whole heap of stuff from them. If I ahd seen this earlier I would have grabbed one* :(
