Review of Mountain Electronics (RMM's store)

Very nice to have a US based seller who has a very good idea what parts we are looking for.
Shipping is always same day on all my orders.

Richard is expanding his product line at a rapid rate with a nice selection of current items.

lots of ppl mention Super-Lube grease - I've never tried it though (dealers e.g. Harbor Freight, Walmart, Amazon)

A few like the oil (HomeDepot, Amazon). I think I would prefer the grease in 1/2 oz size.

You may find silicone grease from Ace Hardware or any Scuba shop. Only get non petroleum based.

Con: it produces black (maybe gritty) residue... so I'm trying new stuff.

Around the house you may have sewing machine oil. some ppl say that works too.

This Grease & Lube thread (see CPF) is pretty comprehensive on the subject. It started back in 2009 and still going - you'll find a lot of suggestions.

I think RMM worked on Christmas... I asked him not to do that. got a message on the 25th saying my package was being shipped. Maybe he's a Grinch?

When you are doing something you love, it’s not considered working  Still need a break though over there at Mountain.

Anyways, I was blogging on a fishing/boating site I frequent and mentioned his U2 C8 for <$30 and >1000 lumens and I got 2 pm’s from friends asking about it. I referred them to his positive reviews and they couldn’t have been happier to find a descent US source for batteries and other goodies. I actually even ordered that little light at that price last night…lol…. HOW can you beat that deal??

Wish I had seen it before XMas as that would have made a great gift to my brother in law.

I have had two perfect orders from them already.I placed a third on the 23 and I saw it was shipped on the 24th!Who ships on the 24th?Richard and his family have done great job with this store. They do a great job on getting orders out quickly and packed very well. The web site has also grown very quickly for the short time it has been up.My ownly fear is that Richard is gonna get burned out at this pace.He is a great asset to this community and I would hate to lose him just so I can get batteries fast at a great price.Hope everyone has a great Holiday!-Rick

Update. I think we have a new record for turnover time. My package just shipped 11 hours after I ordered it. LOL.

Can’t wait until he gets those darn 3400 mAh 18650’s on January 4th or so. Those things will go like Hot-Cakes!!

Actually received my package today. That’s impressive for the cost of shipping. Mountain kicks butt. Thanks Richard.

That little C8 is a nasty SOB for it’s size. I already lost ownership to my son though….lol…. Guess I’ll be ordering another.

Lost both of my C8’s to my son for bike lights……………………

Just received my first order (King Kong 26650 cells). Very happy with the price and service.

I placed an order for a custom P60 drop-in and it was built and shipped in less than 10 hours. ( a couple of days before Christmas no less ) Impressive !!

I was provided with tracking number and order arrived well packed.

RMM is very helpful if you need additional info or advice on what to pick to fit your needs.

I can totally recommend Mountain Electronics.

Stay away, all mine!

Both my orders shipped the next business day and arrived in 3 days with ample packaging materials. Pretty great prices especially for a US seller. Definitely my go to for parts and batteries (I have enough flashlights for the time being. ).

Can not parse this sentence.

Prices are very competitive with overseas suppliers with much quicker shipping and large inventory of xml emitters with lots of various tints and bins.

I just got a king kong 26650 & XM-L2 U2 1B? on copper from them. Im very happy with the order!

Wow. Ordered 4/22, delivered 4/26 — barely long enough for me to forget what’s in the package!
Thank you.

I dig the cheap shipping and excellent customer service. Rich has been more than helpful every time I’ve had a question.

Steve

I’ll not repeat all the great and accurate comments above (and after) about Richard’s fast, accurate and resonably priced product supplies for those of you who mod. I now buy all my batteries and supplies from him.

I CAN tell you that he has made a lasting impression on my collection by selling lights he himself has modded. I now have three (and counting). We all know that there exist certain budget lights with build value beyond their price. Richard finds them, researches them, tests them, buys them in bulk (a capital commitment by him) then brings the RMM-modded light to we buyers at a fantastic price point with critical improvements in customizable functions.

Good show, Richard. You are the master of your niche’.

_Rant_On

Maybe I’m the only one with a negative experience. I ordered a couple batteries. A couple days later I checked the order status, and it said “completed” so I figured they probably shipped it already. Then last night instead of a shipping notification, I get a pay pal invoice for 84 cents, which I paid. The invoice said “for goods and services”. I mentioned in the notes that I paid it, but politely asked for an explanation of the charge—no reply to that.

Today after I had been at my desk a few hours it dawned on me that I wasn’t getting very good service and I sent an email to Richard saying that I didn’t really like getting a vaguely worded invoice this far into the order process when I thought I had completed my order (which did say ‘completed’ for the status) and that I would be writing a negative review.

Now to be fair, he was very communicative. But very adamant that his home page did specify that WA and UT customers would get a separate invoice. But in 20 something years of ordering from the Internet, I’ve never seen a store do this, so it wasn’t something I expected. I’m not really a fine print reader and I take some responsibility for that, but I’m supposed to read the fine print of every web site to see if the order I placed was really placed and not waiting on a second transaction in order to ship? I reject that sentiment. I’ve never read the fine print of goinggear or amazon to see if completing an order actually means completing an order. I put in my card info, press ‘pay now’ and stuff arrives at my doorstep.

Again, in the sake of fairness, he did apologize for the slow shipping, and I understand my email had an irate tone, but he kind of treated me like I was stupid for not reading the fine print on his web site. And instead of being apologetic about the rickety e-commerce site (I build these type of sites for a living) he was running, he informed me that his volume in WA was too low to justify the expense of making his system work correctly. Ok, got it, you only want happy, high volume customers. And apparently “we ship FAST” only counts if you don’t owe an extra 84 cents on your order, regardless of what the order status says.

Yes, I am a grumpy old man, just one kid shy of yelling “get off my lawn you kids”, but I’m also a loyal customer to dozens of stores that give me great service, and I do my best to reward the truly great sellers like Illumination Supply and hkequipment by showering them with praise and telling everyone I know how awesome they are, and in all honesty, I didn’t see a high degree of awesomeness from Mountain Electronics for my first order. It’s a good thing I always put in a small “test order” the first time I use a seller

He did give me a full refund for both invoices, but I’m going to go against the grain here and say avoid Mountain Electronics.

was helped out by Richard during a couple of purchasing decisions. All packaging very good in spite of USPS pre-opened delivery service.

Cheers
