mini c8

That little pill turned out amazingly good. Still can’t believe I got it there from a 1” bar with my minimal, lousy tools. Ah the things you can accomplish when your’e stubborn and opinionated…

Is it available somewhere in English? Looks nice (matte anodization), there are not many budget small 18650 lights with (probably) decent throw. Reflector looks weird though:

PS. There’s also AA version on ebay:

Phantom23, you talked me in to a couple of them. Lol. I hope they are as cool and/or unique as the little guys are. The link really does not give any details when viewed on my nook but for $2.50 shipped they are worth a gamble. I am curious on the dimensions and cell type. Thanks for the link btw.

The eBay aa version looks like the standard AAA version just with wrong description.

I’d agree with this. The seller does not ship to a lot of countries. Has anyone else found any other suppliers?

Are we sure those are AA? …… Screw it worth a shot at that price either way.

Hmm I’ll do some more research.

How about mini 18650s, are they available outside taobao?

I just looked at it on my computer and I would agree with the others that it looks like the AAA version. At 3.25” I would think it is too short for AA’s.

Now that’s funny right there!

What’s funny?

This is:

“18650” means 18mm diameter, 65mm long. “Mini” would have different numbers.

Can you please read a few previous posts of mine. You’ll notice that I was interested in another mini C8 which is 18650 version (available at taobao):

That’s the 18650 one I was referring to.

I think he thought you were asking about mini 18650’s and not mini C8’s that take 18650’s.

Give im a break!

I started to answer the guy, but it looks like we’ve been trolled. Apparently some TaoBao (Chinese eBay, owned by Alibaba) seller Googled the site & found the name & applied it to yet another dubious “C8-knockoff”. No way I have time to slog through TaoBao to figure out WTF he was talking about.

I’m not too dim to notice the thread has to do with a miniature version of the “real” C8, but which takes either AA or AAA batteries (the pix in the OP show a Dollar General battery with no ID marks visible which looks a lot like AA proportions but is called AAA…) and apparently makes a decent mod host. 18650-based lights belong in another thread.

PS: I’ve followed every link in this thread. IS there any AA (not AAA) powered, C8-looking, Aluminum-bodied, mod-able host worth discussing? After taking it on the chin over these quirky F20s for so long, I could sure use a decent 1*AA host to deploy at work…

My wishful thinking notwithstanding, I get the feeling this thread spun off into the weeds long ago.

Dim

There is a cheapie… Lowes flashlight?.. AA, side switch, decent quality, but the same plastic pill, junk led and junk reflector. Very pocketable. < $5 iirc.

If you can mod the aaa mini c8 then you can do the exact same to this little light (very similar dimensions), which is my plan for the two side switch lights… If my TIR ever make it here.

10deg TIR, little copper pill, dedomed/domed xpg2, little AA/aaa boost driver.

Edit found The lowes cheapie, $2.97!

They even show to be at Lowe’s in my town. The whole thing for me on the “mini C8” is how close a copy it is to the real C8 while being so tiny. Getting real light components in the tiny light that was intended to be a cheapie keychain light makes it quite surprising, which is part of the challenge for me. I think it’s cute, it’s certainly very useful with close to 500 OTF lumens and is just fun.

Likewise, an only-slightly-smaller copy of the C8 doesn’t really hold interest for me.

No problem Dimbo, you’re one of the brightest lights on the shelf, regardless of your handle.

500lm from AAA battery is not exactly useful because of very short runtime (and a lot of heat in a tiny body).

We’re in “LED Flashlights – General Info” section, not AAA flashlights. Even though this thread started from AAA version, it quickly became more general about mini C8.

PS. I just filed a request on Fasttech for mini C8 (18650 one). Let’s hope they’ll manage to get them.

It’s fun in the first place if you see 500lm out of such a small light. I have a few of them, but i have to figure out what to do with them. I think i’ll get myself some efest 10440 and go from there.

Along the lines of using the one you have, the power doesn’t always go out when you’re standing at the ready with your entire flashlight line-up at your disposal. When you’re walking through a big parking garage in the hospital and everything goes dark, sure a tiny keychain light that shows you if your shoes are untied is nice to have…so is one that will light up the entire garage! Does it have to last an hour? Nope! The few minutes it’ll comfortably last will easily get you to the car, in most cases. If you need light for a longer amount of time, that’s what modes are for. Low will last several hours and is still a very useful amount of light in an emergency scenario. I guess I could activate star 4 for a moonlight mode, then it’d probably be good for a couple of days.

And yes, this thread started from the AAA Mini C8, and got hi-jacked by someone talking about a much larger light…which doesn’t necessarily mean that the thread took a direction change but does mean someone wasn’t paying attention.
