I just contacted a supplier to get more information on the reflector, lens and amp draws if possible. Might be a good light for a group buy. If I get any reasonable response, I will let you know.
Nice! I ordered it (not from that site, didn’t support PayPal, I found that company on Alibaba and they took paypal). Got it shipped right to Vinh so we’ll see what he can squeeze out of it with 6 x 18650’s inside her! Should be sweet
was the price any cheaper? just so you know, szobm is the oem behind sz-wholesale, they are the same company. and like many have said, they will send a proforma invoice and PP address after you have placed the order…
Working on putting together a first look and teardown thread right away.
I haven’t taken it apart fully yet but so far I’m really pleased with the machining and feel of the light. It’s solid and feels great in the hand.
A few observations. (from the outside only + front bezel screwed off to check on reflector and lens)
I got mine from Shenzhen wholesale and it’s an unbranded model just as the pictures show. I really like the form factor.
Nice machining and flawless anodizing in a great gunmetal grey colour. Sweet
Well machined threads with a small amount of grease already applied, goes together smooothly.
Good news on the lens and reflector, they are glass and Aluminium respectively. The reflector is very smooth and very clean and very big. No complaints at all, it’s a positive surprise!
The UI with the sideswitch is High/Low(Visible PWM)/Off with a hidden strobe on a long press. Sounds very much like the standard SRK driver UI to me (don’t have one but from what I hear it’s the same kind of thing).
It’s not as bright as it should be but looks decently driven for a stock light. Room for improvement definitely.
The beam profile and hotspot shape is a bit disappointing. The emitter is perfectly centered but has a rather thick centering ring around it which means it’s not sitting very deep in the reflector. Again room for improvement here. Haven’t tested it outside yet but I don’t think this emitter focus is optimal even for a dedicated thrower.
Will tear it apart and post a detailed thread on it by the end of the day.
Cheers
First impressions are very good on this as a host for modding. Definitely!
The reflector is gorgeous, probably the most flawless aluminium reflector I’ve seen in a budget light. Very nice indeed.
Just noticed a bit of output wavering/flickering on high and low though, probably a bad ground contact somewhere inside.
Perfect excuse to crack it open and take a closer look at the insides methinks
Felt it was most appropriate to put it in the Modding section since it would mostly be of interest as a host for modders but maybe I’ll move it to the reviews section once I’ve done some more detailed testing.
Looking forward to seeing reports from those that bought theirs from KD.
Cheers
+1 - wondering the same thing. Find it difficult to believe vinh could spend the time on anything near the level of modding you did. Ken - yours is pretty incredible.. vinh is in the business of mods - taking on a mod like that is either a money loser or someone will be paying a whole bunch of money for it. I know vinh is quick, but that's a lot of work, besides just parts cost.
That’s true. I keep forgetting this is a “budget” light forum. I just couldn’t help myself to build it though! I would estimate my total cost of about 250.00 without batteries. Oh, and a lot of labor time too!
With its specs, it should throw similar to a K40. It should also be good for modding and with its much cheaper price (than the K40 or TN31), it won’t hurt that much if you mess it up while doing the mods.
