Group buy feeler thread: CQG AA SS NW (XP-G2 4A)

Initial impressions:
+ It looks as good as in the photos
+ Good build quality
+ Nice tint
+ Nice beam (with LOP reflector)
+ Well regulated (see runtime graph)
+ Modes are ok (116lm, 42lm, 8lm - I'd like to have even lower low, but this isn't bad either)
+ No blinky modes
+ No low voltage protection -> works down to moon mode (yes, this is a pro in case of an AA light!)
- Not current controlled (has PWM, although pretty fast & unnoticeable, haven't measured it yet, but it seems to be around 1kHz)
- Next mode memory(!!)
I already contacted Ric about this issue. Let's see what he answers..

Tailcap readings were: 1.40A, 0.56A & 0.13A

Runtime chart (Eneloop 2000mAh, light kept in hand to provide "natural cooling"):

Nice! Like the chart too, very helpful.

Next mode gotta go. Everything else looks good, no?

Thanks!

I'm sure it will be in the review, but being too curious: what is the size, and: is the driver/led swappable (is 'swappable' a word?, looks weird..)

+1!

Next mode memory would be a deal breaker for me!

I have no idea how anyone anywhere ever could come up with a driver and think next mode memory is a good idea. Next mode memory will make this one a no-go for me!

I’m in for one of these - it fills a niche that is quite underfilled if you ask me (slim, small neutral AA in a nice material with a clicky)

The next mode memory is a bummer.
If they can fix that it’s a go for me.

I think this is one of the smarter categories for group buy /custom blf lights

AA Shiny Stainless Steel has a great overall appeal .

I'd like to see the N-light B2S make a come back with updated emitter

Driver seems to be the weakest link here . I love the emitter choice but would want a AA 14500 driver with low to high ,no memory, no flashy modes instead of high to low .

Moon med high would be ok too

Not weird

In this case, important. I’d be in, if it either has an “always-starts-on-low / no disco modes” driver or if I can swap it out with one of my own choosing.

My vote goes for the “blf special edition”, I don’t have one yet…

I’m in! Hopefully something can be done to the “next mode memory”…

the retail price goes down to $22 with $5.09 shipping to my country.
well, now I see the GB pricing is better.
any new update?

I grabbed 2 from his alie store…
built quality is excellent. No flaw with the host n inner.
however I realized the front lens is held by sort of retainer brass ring with no place to twist.maybe it’s pressed fit. Haven’t figured out how to access the head. Seems no joint or tweezer holes.

the beam is nice. Quite accurate color rendetion.
big hotspot, thin corona and useable spill. Make balder hd01 with xml u2 like crap.

edit: after tested it a little longer, confirmed both mine really next mode memory, consistently.

Might be interested in 2-3 pieces custom engraving depending on the price (hopefully we get over 50 people!) What kind of engraving btw? Is 5-6 alphabets allowed?

+1

I fully agree. That's why I have been working with Ric and factory to get a new driver for our possible GB. Unfortunately it's not ready yet, so I can't tell you any details..

I'm also curious. Next mode memory isn't a big deal if I can swap in a Qlite driver, but options are limited if it only takes smaller drivers.

I burnt mine out by trying a 14500 :frowning:
