Get the Convoy C8 AK47 from Banggood (8*7135)

Depends on the type of 18650+ driver ... @2,8A ~1h, @1,4A ~2h, @0,2A ~15 hours.

I got the Convoy C8 mentioned in this post at the beginning: Convoy C8 Cree XM-L U2-1B 2-Group 3/5-Mode LED Flashlight AMC7135*8 - from FastTech. I’m using a locally bought (Taiwan) 18650 2800 mAH protected. Not sure if it’s an ICR, NCR…

Received mine and I’m impressed with the quality. Absolutely destroys my UF C8’s

I measured between 2.7-2.8 Amps at the tail of all my Convoy C8’s. Considering stacking some more 7135 chips but would this result in perceivably increased output or simply waste energy in the form of heat? It seems 2.8A is quite a ‘sensible’ current level with no significant overheating issues. Thoughts?

For those wanting more pics (I apologize ahead of time. These really are bad pics)…

Haha guys  Thanks for the beamshots. I think my money is going to a multi-tool :stuck_out_tongue: I’ll get the c8 later I guess. Can’t have everything NOW in life unless you are filthy rich!

If you prefer to see them all in a side by side comparison, I’ve collaged the photos:
From top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right - control, low, medium, high

ISO200 but i think your exposure is long 1-3s?

Yeah, according to the picture data, they were all at 1 second. Sorry, my point and shoot has limited features in program mode. I couldn’t manually set the exposure time. Still, I think it’s a pretty accurate representation of what I’m actually seeing outside my window.

The idea of higher exposure is to convey accurately that “wow” affect. Overexposure is closer to my eye’s take on some of these pocket-rockets at turn-on. Too often, I keep seeing these lessened beamshots that might ought never to have been posted since they don’t accurately convey how bright a light is. We all know pictures can be deceiving anyway, but we still want to see what a light can do.

So… are you saying that the pictures I posted don’t do the flashlight justice? I would think that a picture that is an accurate representation of what is actually seen is better than “padding the stats” and showing a picture that makes things look brighter and more effective than what is realistically taking place. If I’m misunderstanding, I apologize.

Hi Rusty and OrionLight, thanks for sharing your impressions and the beamshots. Do you own XinTD C8 V4? I have one of those and even had it modded by TomE. Then I felt no need for other C8s and gifted them away.
Do you think I will be happy with this one even though it might not be as bright and throwy?
Thanks!

Hi Sesgum. I can’t say for sure since I don’t own a XinTD C8, but I have heard great things about it. All I know is that for the price, this Convoy C8 is much more than I thought was possible for a budget light. It’s a solid piece of craftsmanship with performance I certainly can’t complain about. I’m no where near the level of flashaholism as some others here in terms of ownership, but I’ve always been a big fan of durability, reliability, and performance in an affordable package. This one fits the bill in my book at every level.

addictions are rather amusing…

+1 - Same here - good bargain for a stock light in quality and performance, but please don't compare it head to head to a mod'ed blazer .

A Convoy C8 can be modded as well as a XinTD C8, but easier and cheaper to start with a bare Convoy C8 host.

Your pics are much better than mine. They certainly do the light justice. I was just abstractly mentioning that some pics can be under-exposed, and thus, lose accuracy to my eye. That’s not the case here at all. This is why I think qualifying observations with comments is always a good idea, as looks - just like all pics - can be deceiving.

Thanks guys for the beamshots and sharing. The convoy will have to wait. Its funds just got allocated to a MT

Thanks for your recommendation.

Yeah, I prefer the exposure level be at whatever it takes to create a realistic representation of what the light does. I’ve seen some pictures that were well under-exposed and thought the flashlight to be rather a letdown, until seeing a video of the light doing field tests with accurate light balance. The light ended up looking much more powerful in the video that looked to be a better representation of what my eyes would actually see.

I got mine in the post last week - took just under two weeks to arrive.
As new as I am to LED lights I have to say I’m very impressed…and now I’m wondering if buying that PD35 was such a wise move.
Oh well, time will tell - but for the price of a couple of pints of beer I really can’t find anything to complain about with the C8.

I’ve got some credit at FT. Can someone tell me if theirs are comparable with the banggood one.
