The idea of higher exposure is to convey accurately that “wow” affect. Overexposure is closer to my eye’s take on some of these pocket-rockets at turn-on. Too often, I keep seeing these lessened beamshots that might ought never to have been posted since they don’t accurately convey how bright a light is. We all know pictures can be deceiving anyway, but we still want to see what a light can do.
So… are you saying that the pictures I posted don’t do the flashlight justice? I would think that a picture that is an accurate representation of what is actually seen is better than “padding the stats” and showing a picture that makes things look brighter and more effective than what is realistically taking place. If I’m misunderstanding, I apologize.
Hi Rusty and OrionLight, thanks for sharing your impressions and the beamshots. Do you own XinTD C8 V4? I have one of those and even had it modded by TomE. Then I felt no need for other C8s and gifted them away.
Do you think I will be happy with this one even though it might not be as bright and throwy?
Thanks!
Hi Sesgum. I can’t say for sure since I don’t own a XinTD C8, but I have heard great things about it. All I know is that for the price, this Convoy C8 is much more than I thought was possible for a budget light. It’s a solid piece of craftsmanship with performance I certainly can’t complain about. I’m no where near the level of flashaholism as some others here in terms of ownership, but I’ve always been a big fan of durability, reliability, and performance in an affordable package. This one fits the bill in my book at every level.
Your pics are much better than mine. They certainly do the light justice. I was just abstractly mentioning that some pics can be under-exposed, and thus, lose accuracy to my eye. That’s not the case here at all. This is why I think qualifying observations with comments is always a good idea, as looks - just like all pics - can be deceiving.
Yeah, I prefer the exposure level be at whatever it takes to create a realistic representation of what the light does. I’ve seen some pictures that were well under-exposed and thought the flashlight to be rather a letdown, until seeing a video of the light doing field tests with accurate light balance. The light ended up looking much more powerful in the video that looked to be a better representation of what my eyes would actually see.
I got mine in the post last week - took just under two weeks to arrive.
As new as I am to LED lights I have to say I’m very impressed…and now I’m wondering if buying that PD35 was such a wise move.
Oh well, time will tell - but for the price of a couple of pints of beer I really can’t find anything to complain about with the C8.
I just ordered the T6-4C from BG. I think it is the default OP reflector. Now I’m thinking if I should shoot an email to them to swap the order to SMO reflector. I read on the first page that OP has much better beam than SMO but I also eager to see the maximum throw of this light.
