I’m not sure if you need an account/be signed in for that link to work. If you pick “flashlight with extended barrel” that’s the flashlight with the extension tube, should be $30.25.
these lights all suffer from a long focal length lens (thin) that makes a tiny hotspot, while the Uniquefire UF-T20 has a much shorter focal length lens (thick, curved) that gives a much bigger hotspot, with the same throw (in other words: more output without loosing throw).
The UF-T20 is still not a 26650 utilizer or with 2 batteries in series especially, this seems especially tempting for MTG2 use…
I searched the model to see what you were talking about and found there happens to be a Wallbuys group buy for the UFT20 in effect, a screw focus instead of push/pull, I had thought about it before but $17.50 is more tempting… WallBuys.com is for sale | HugeDomains
I don’t think you will be happy with the MT-G2 beam with an aspheric lens. I have tried a few different lenses on MT-G2’s and never really found one I liked at all.
I do like zoomies and if I could pick this one up cheap enough I would.
What is it you didn’t like exactly? Beam collimation, output? You have much more experience in anything like this I’m glad for your input/advice
I do like this even as a zoomie too, especially for around $30, with a reflector/large head and using 1-2 26650s anyways though. I just figured the amount of metal for heat sink, head size, reflector and rare 2x26650 would be perfect for MT-G2. If not that I’m sure modders would like it to increase power to an XML2.
I always have hope with a zoomie, then I get it and am disappointed, say I’m not going to buy a zoomie again, then later get tempted with another cheap zoomie…
According to Taobao, even if you are buying it in China, the price for this light plus extension including shipping is ~37USD.
In the description, the seller said 2.8A was also available. And it has XML2 0D instead of XML (also noticed this in toysareforboys’s nice pictures).
What I don’t like about it is that you get this big ugly honey cone shaped die pattern and still it doesn’t throw worth a darn. I was actually going to buy a similar zoomie and put one in because I like zoomies a lot. But after seeing what they do I was not impressed at all. Plus you lose so many lumens with a zoomie that it’s kind of a waste.
If it has good heatsinking I would put a de-domed XM-L2 and push it around 6 amps or so. If the heatsinking isn’t that great then I would use a XP-G2 de-domed and just go for a really great throw and enough flood to be a nice walking light.
i wouldn’t mind having one - it would have a massive amount of flood - great for blanketing an area with a nice tint…and no hotspot. that tripod mount and a gorillapod could make it a handy work or car camping light. zooming out would be for when you want to see something further out - you lose a ton of lumens…which is a waste of power…but if that’s occassional/short use, it is at least handier than carrying a second light.
the reason i won’t have one, comes down to cost. $70 is better spent elsewhere…and xml can flood well, and throw great.
You guys are probably right, I have not seen an MT-G2 zoomie. Love the tint and output though, and with the extra lumens it creates could be worth it even with the problems you outline, but probably not for the price. Still, I like this light and want one at around $37, filled out the fast tech request form too.
I have a couple of 7g5v2 (reflector head and 67mm? aspheric lens head) and I have 3 pills, sst-90 green, xml2 dedomed and mtg2
mtg2 is great with the reflector. it is kind of cool to play with the mtg2 and aspheric…(outside, the waffle pattern isn’t as noticeable, especially if you slightly defocus), but I don’t have any real use for it…
