Multi Tool Mania ( Leatherman MUT, ST 300, Charge TTI , Wave, Skeletool, Wingman, & Kick )

Nice ones, how about Climbers photos?

Received this today….

Victorinox spirit with tools set combo is awesome. Some says that it is even better than leatherman newwave and charge tti.

But that is matter of personal preference. I think Victorinox does have better blade materials.

The things aesthetics are off the chart. The workmanship is excellent. But the ease of access for those wanting a ‘one handed’ tool. Just not there.

Yes indeed even Ganzo G301 beats Victorinox in easy of use :)

Apparently SAK/ Victorinox have a almost cult like following. When I rated the Spirit X as poor ease of access… Sphincters tightened around the world.

You are correct and they are unreal(or they did not tried others) if claiming different but no matter of poor ease of access for tools it is one hell of a sturdy tool...

If you will want to sell it for decent price PM me.

Sweet, thanks for sharing those, Dale! I have several Victorinox on the way myself. So far I’ve found every model I want in black. I ordered the Explorer and instantly regretted not having the pliers, so I’m looking at either a Champ or Mechanic if I can find one in black. Still loving the Tinker.

Still debating a Victorinox SwissTool/Spirit or the Charge TTi. The Spirit looks beautiful but I would almost be afraid to scratch it, where I don’t seem to mind beating up on my Leatherman tools.

Can’t do that… I’ve been lusting over these things for a year.

Here’s my collection as of today:
(Finally figuring out the new camera and homemade light box)

My sister makes these great survival kits, and the two odd-balls in the picture were dug out of her kits

Also don't forget about an excellent Victorinox pocket skinning knife that is used by hunters all around the globe:

It is well worth the money.

But it has almost all necessary tools for regular guy for edc(extra strong saw go through roebuck bone without problems), and wine and beer bottle opener...

I like to Vic’s with extra large and wide blade, slightly wider blade than in the one you posted, luminarium iaculator.

But I do find them a bit pricey :D!

Doing a bit of research… I’m surprised Vic is still using 420 & 440a steel. At those prices you’d think they would have upgraded to S30V steel

I’m surprised to hear that too. My Juice Xe6 has S30V and the steel on the Vics appears to be at least as hard. But I haven’t really put any of my new Vics to a serious test. Whatever it is, it appears hard enough to already be getting some serious use out of my Tinker’s Philips screwdriver. I’ve already used it on screws that would’ve given grief to cheap Chinese screwdrivers made of softer steel.

Is there an easy way to test the steel without risking damage to it?

It’s 420 & 440a

It’s a proprietary steel somewhere between 420 and 440A.

INOX in this table.

+1

Where do you get that info from? I have quite a few Juices and none of them has an S30V blade. Only the Leatherman Charges come with those. You can buy Leatherman S30V blades off of TTC on eBay for Waves/Charges but all the other stock Leathermans come with a 420HC blade as far as I know.

As for Victorinox, they use:

x55CrMo14 for blades
x39Cr13 for parts
x20Cr13 for backsprings

Vic steel is hardened at 1040°C and then quenched at 160°C so the blades get a RC hardness of RC 56. (RC = Rockwell C, unit for hardness)

The saws, scissors and nail files are hardened to RC 53, screwdrivers, can openers and awls to RC 52 and the corkscrews and backsprings to RC 49.

The metal saw is work hardened and hard chromed to achieve a hardness that can cut iron and steel.
