broken NITECORE I4 Charger

I had no idea that they soldered boards like this until I saw this on tv: http://youtu.be/3WRBMRyO4X0?t=39s . I thought they did it by hand.

Interesting

This process has been used for many years, it is called "Wave soldering".

Try to pull the “hats” from the fuse, I guess it is a standard fuse with just two contact joints pressed on…

in that pic looks like d3 is burned.
what is the chip next to it?
looks like a topswitch.smps and mosfet in one.

If you can't fix it, sell it to me. I want one to make into a battery charging cradle for a hobby charger.

My I-4 v2 quit this week also. No power when 110v ac applied. I loaded it up with 4 Panny 18650’s every night for 6 months. One night it just stopped. Going back under warranty which is 18 months.

They wanted me to ship it back to them. No offer for them to cover shipping. Here's the shipping address they gave me.

If you change your mind, I'd love to take that dead charger off your hands. All I really care about is the sliders.

Nightcore is in China? Sheez. This is revolting. Maybe I will tear it open. If I change my mind either way Leaftye, you can have it.

Did you purchase your i4 from a authorized dealer in the US? You should be able to return your i4 to them.

It makes it a huge hassle. I don't fault them for being a chinese company or having their chargers made there, but at least have a return address in this country. There are services that could handle it for them. That's what Fasttech does.

Try contacting Nitecore yourself, but I fear you'll get the same disappointing answer I got. If so, definitely tear it open. You have nothing to lose. Hopefully you can fix it, but if not, I'll be thankful for your charging cradle host.

Yeah, That’s the link I contacted them through three days ago. No reply yet. Purchased through Amazon in August 2013.

My first two responses from Nitecore took one day, and the third took three days.

When you purchased it through Amazon, was Amazon.com the seller or was Amazon only providing fulfillment? Right now there are both types, and the primary vendor right now is Edison with Amazon providing fulfillment, but if you look at the right side you see that Amazon.com is also a vendor for a slightly higher price.

Yep, of course, I went for the lower price. Edison. sometimes saving a little $ is not the _best_way to go.

Edison Bright is a authorized Nitecore dealer in the US with full US warranty according to Amazon’s page

You'd be doing them a favor if you try handling the warranty claim outside of Amazon. One of the guys from IS said an exchange for a vendor through Amazon costs them shipping back to Amazon, then back to the vendor, and they still have to pay for sending another unit to you. If you handle it directly, I suspect they'll send another one out to you without requiring you to return it. Or they might have Amazon ship you another one, again without requiring a return. That's what Powergen did for me. I contacted them directly, they asked for my order number, and they had Amazon send me a replacement.

So leaftye you’re all set then, getting a i4 replacement?

i’ll try to substitute it with nearly the same part if i got one since this is my main charger for my panny :expressionless:
I4 V1 can’t handle longer cells

Yes. Illumination Supply came through for me. Fortunately I bought it from them. Ever since I've been buying more and more from domestic vendors that ship from within the US.

Well, mine still works on a 12vdc wall wart as well. That’s what I’ll do for now until they contact me. If they end up sending a new one, Leaftye this one is all yours.
