This is what a 4,000 lumen SRK can do to your batteries if left on high for too long.

Thank your darling wife for taking on your testing duties for us that you are to scared to do yourself. What a wonderful girl. Can you get her to talk to my wife about being a little reasonable? The cattle prodder doesn’t work on mine anymore. :_(

Yep lucky nothing bad happened and I’m sure the emitters wouldn’t take that abuse without the sinkpads.

Cattle prodders are outdated. You need a hybrid Taser/flashlight combo like I have. >) Zap her with the strobe mode, hit her with the Taser then run like hell.

Speaking of dumb things to do. I once got drunk and was dared to put one of those fly zapper things that look like a tennis racket on my tongue. (I quit drinking a while back for good reason) It hurt a lot, but what was really odd was that only half my tongue went numb. The right side was completely numb for a day and the left side was perfectly fine. Things tasted odd that day too.

Smile. My boss at work did a similar thing with a 2.8A S3 - it got too hot to hold, hard to turn off without buring your hand, but no damage whatsoever. The copper stars do amazingly incredible. Guess the only bad thing is nothing melts or breaks off, so everything keeps on goin til the battery voltage sags enough.

hahaha, I shock myself with one of those electric mosquito racket too! For me, it shocked my right ear. I literally cannot feel my right ear for 3 days. Fortunately, hearing is almost complete recovered!

There is more voltage on those things than I thought. Glad your hearing is ok.

There seems to be a common theme here apart from the stupidity. It seems these tennis racket zappers (yes we had them for the kids as well but never tried them on a human) is that it only affects half. Half a tongue and only half your ears. Hmm, strange.

We didn't have any fancy tennis racket zappers, but we did have an electric livestock fence. Rest assured that thing was peed upon with hilarious results.

Tenniis?

JUICE!

What's the amp pull of that beast?

Did it stress the batteries max current ability (aka make them run hot), or did the light just get too hot because it was burning like the sun?

I read that as the light body became like a clothes drier and shrink the wrappers.

Its not a cardigan, but close enough…

looks like it became a portable cooking stove. im supprised the light is ok and none of the wires insulation didn’t melt and short out.

Yep just the body got so hot that it melted the shrink wrap. Probably helped by the fact that these batteries have a slight slit on them where they came out of battery packs. So the heat could work easily on them I guess. The other two batteries were fine and when I took them out they were not even super hot.

I’m guessing that each emitter is getting about three amps.

That’s probably what happened - the extra heat shrinks the wrap further to ripping point.

I did this a few times, ran my unmodded SRK high till battery went dead. But I encountered no problems, never seen this happened before. The temp must be quite high on your hot-rod. Running that hot can’t be good for the battery health  .

I use the high as a turbo mode and not usually room lighting but it does do a good job. Plus it’s been below zero at night around here and I like a good hand warmer.

My son do the same thing to my Convoy L4 yesterday during blackout and when he gave it back to me it was really really hot when i touch it. Guess i need to check the battery now :open_mouth:

Get the wife a maglite

i was afraid to read what had happened when i clicked on this thread. im glad its more of good news and not anything crazy.
awesome light again btw

You know I think I heard of a light with the turbo mode hidden. Starting to think that might not be a bad idea if lights are gonna be accessible to normms or darks or whatever is the correct short hand for non-flashaholics.

It would be a good idea for many, especially kids. Although most kids would probably figure out how to get it on turbo faster than me.
