CLOSED! Group Buy: Starry Light SA-22 BLF Edition (NW emitter, better modes, faster PWM, BLF logo)

I am in for 1 if I am not too late.

It looks like we will have enough if the thread issues can get fixed and we get a positive review sample :)

Same here, if the light will start to fall apart after few battery replacements, it will be a disaster for all sides involved!

Haha, yeah, one of mine would travel to mother in law, SD10 is there on the duty right now :D!
I'm interested and love the 4 mode. Does it come with a holster?
Same here - will it come with holster just like regular version?
I'm in for one T6-4C tint please if positive on the review/teardown :)
Is this the redd-ish neutral one? I have 3C and its more like a warm white than neautral white.

Id be interested in up to 3 lights if I could get them with both tints ;)! ...and of course when I see positive reviews!

And about logo/print - how much will be for customized one and is blank one possible as well?

Thanks THE for working on this ;)!

Interested if the threading issue is fixed.

Looks like you might be able to hit the 100 mark om this Group Buy

I would have to get at least 1
May add more after review

According to Ric: Manufacturer is aware of the threading issues and has already done some changes to prevent them in the BLF Edition lights.

In addition to that, we will check the sample thoroughly and Ric will perform additional quality control for the threads of the lights purchased via this GB.

=> Sounds good, but I can't really confirm any of this until I see the sample. Please stay tuned. :)

I've also asked my contact at Black Shadow about the threading issue and if they are planning to resolve the issue with updated production. I would be honestly shocked if they plan to make changes and correct the existing model. In the past they have acknowledged the issues with their other lights (such as PWM on the Terminator and Padme, and increasing the output of the Darth) but their decision makers refused to invest any time or money updating existing lights and said they would just move on and make new lights instead of fixing issues with already produced lights.

It's quite a shame because if they would have simply eliminated the PWM on the BST, turned up the power just a bit, and maybe added a moon low, they would have turned an already impressive little light like the BST into a near perfect legend. All of it would not have required a single cent in increased production costs as it would be all in programming (except for a switch in resistors for output increase) but they flat out refused to look back and would prefer to simply move on to the next light. Fixing the Starry Light will require a complete change in thread design on not only the plastic body but possibly also the aluminum head plus a complete retooling of all production molds and machining.

I will be surprised if they do it on a $20-$25 light but if they do then it will likely be for all future production of the SA-22, not just for 50-100 units for a BLF special buy. If the updates are made then count me in on one BLF edition as well.

Count me in on one pending a good review!

+1

I assume it's plastic, just like the PA40 (had two of those, gifted them away, still miss them..)

That's why I'm looking forward to see manufacturer solving the issues -> we might be able to get a good clone for half the price.

Thanks!

Thats a really good insightful post. Im always down to get more AA lights but dont want to toss away 22$. Maybe better to put money towards a more quality light unless issues are resolved.

Curious, but what exactly were the threading issues? Thanks.

I would be interested if the issues were properly resolved. Thanks for looking into it.

Thank you!

In for 1 or 2 pending review.

"...

Let me explain a little more about the headache behind this; I think everyone here who knows me as they do would know I’d never want to do or say anything that could down a good product or cost a good seller business. But in this case, the issue with the head was the major issue with other resulting issues therefrom. Honestly, it makes this light a pain in the arse.

Because of the design, there is serious confusion on which side to put the batteries into and no distinction from looking how one side has two that go in positive first, and the other side positive down. No distinction at all looking at the spring bottom where the batteries load. So the people I sold them to brought back the two lights (just like I suspected they would) and said: “I charged the batteries and put them back in and this doesn’t come on now.” “Oh boy!”, I was thinking.

Turns out, the way the head is designed, the inner-head (actual unit of the light) can swivel around and be reversed without knowing it in relation to the way the batteries go in. So it’s dang good it has reverse polarity protection! So the downside of this mess is that not only is the head screwing on an issue with the retaining ring coming out (again, on all of the three I got), but when you want to get one of these for someone without the worry of priming them with knowledge of special batteries, you can’t as easily do that since the configuration resists being trouble-free. I’ve had to put the batteries back in and/or re-attached/screw down the head a number of times changing batteries. It really is annoying.

So the conclusion: Might as well give your non-flashie family and friends a one-cell 18650 light that won’t offer such little headaches and keep this one for you. And keep in mind, I didn’t even really factor in the defective one I sent back having the totally bad threads. "

After reading this , as well as some other comments and pictures in the other thread , I do not believe this light would be the ideal non-flashaholic gift light .

I'm out .

In for one - if the issues are fixed.

I’m in for 1, pending review - as with others, I’m concerned about the threading, but also the heat issues some have reported. If I can’t hold it after 10 minutes, that’s not good for me.

I assume that this will this come with a holster like the original IS version does?
