Review: Supbeam X60 (5 x XM-L2 | 6 x 18650)

Output seems rather disappointing compared to the shocker, considering how much more it costs.

really? seems to me it handily toasts the shocker.

if it had temperature step down instead of timed, and was $250…i’d have to try really hard not to buy one

WOW! That is quite amazing. I dont think I ever saw a light with that sweet UI sombined with throw comdined with high lumen combined with great heat management. Man I hope the price drops a little over time. This could be the perfect light for so many situations for me.

Oh. I nearly forgot ;-) Thank you for doing the review the :-)

Great review! Great looking light.

I will have to wait till 2030 when it's discontinued & deeply marked down though...

Wonderful!

Thank You for a GREAT review.
The number of photos and detailed descriptions add so much.
The best is the photo of all the different lights so people can see the difference between the light you reviewed and a light they may have.
I also like the Mouse Over.

Thanks

great review on THE great flashlight

@OL
please pm me when you got it

Excellent review for an excellent light. Sounds like Subbeam hit a home run on this one.

Great review on a great light.
I also have one, well the X60vn version. I love the light. It’s bumped to about 4.5A and dedomed. Does about 6400 otf and 433k on stock Supbeam cells. And does 6900 at 2 minutes and 460K running on 20R’s. I figure its closer to 5A with those cells. It does get a little warm running the 20R’s, but not too bad.
Even bone stock this light is very impressive based on OP’s numbers above.

i cant wait for my x60vn

Thank you guys for your kind words! :)

X60vn owners: Would you please send a beamshot, so I could decide whether to swap emitters to NW or dedome them and go for full mod.. For some reason I don't feel the urge to mod this beauty at all, except to make it NW. The beam pattern is so nice as stock! :)

Fantastic review! If it was $100 cheaper I'd be all over it.

Looks awesome but…

340 dollars?!? Crap that is really pricey! That really shouldnt be a 5 star Value for Money and deserves at least 1 star ding.
A Porche is amazing but not a good value for the money.

You are getting much better build quality, but the cheapo version can be had for what? 60 bucks?

Well. Two chargers and six cells are included. It's $299 without cells.

1 star ding, well, maybe. But the value for money is still good. There's no cheapo models putting out real 5000lm or having infinitely variable brightness. Both of which are very valuable for me, as I'm planning to use this light as photo / video light.

Actually I'm planning to buy one more to match this [I need (at least) two lights for my photography - have been using two Shockers for large scenes so far, but using this + Shocker would result in way too biased lighting] and of course I'll mod both of them to be NW.

Value typically means lumens or throw for the money. There are a couple single emitter lights that can out throw it for half the price, but they have a fraction of the output.

The only LED light I can think of that would have more lumens AND out throw it is the XM18. $2400 for 15000 lumens with battery and charger. You can get three X60's and have $1380 left over. Electrolumens Kong-21 has 21000 lumens for $2000, but doesn't throw as far. Again the X60 will buy you more lumens for the money.

Just because something costs a lot of money doesn't mean it's not a good value.

You mention a $60 version. I'd sure love to know what $60 light has more lumens or throw, and especially if it has more lumens AND throw.

Thank you for the great review. It is an impressive light.

Will try to take one tonight. I received my X60vn (a resale from the original batch, not the current one) yesterday.

Left the domes on, and 6500k xml2, so can't comment on how much a warmer LED will help.

The only two things that I don't like about the light, is the lack of standby mode with the control ring, and there is some battery tube rattle. Overall though it's the best showing so far from supbeam.

It does beat out the Fenix RC40vn in output, and maybe a bit in throw (the X60vn has a more uniform beam pattern), but loses out in quality. The RC40 is built like a tank, and much heavier.

Thanks for the review _the_. ;)

On your light (I assume with 1st gen driver, so maybe not similar to GroupBuy lights), what is needed in order to do a stepdown reset?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but if I used some 30Qs would the light be brighter?

Not significantly brighter. I would not suggest using unprotected cells in this light unless you are very careful and make sure the cells stay in balance.
