Turning streetlights off

Is the sensor on top of the street light? I should go experiment with shining my SRK or my C8 (Don’t have my FF STL-V6 yet) at a street light. Then again I might end up on my roof trying to get the right angle and all that and it could get ugly. When I was young a friend came over with a few Kodak film canisters of stage flash powder. Lighting a tablespoon of that on a stump in the front yard made all the street lights shut off… I’m wondering if I can do the same with a flashlight? And these are private street lights that I own. Nothing illegal going on here.

They’re on top usually with a diffuser/cover. Usually from a distance you can get an angle low enough to shine the light on top of the diffuser and within a minute or so they’ll turn off. It’s especially easy with a green laser pointer.

If its a HID lamp you can kill it prematurely by switching on & off. No problem if its a modern LED instead.

oh, so you have to shine for about a minute? no wonder i was never able to turn on off.

I wonder how many lumens, generally speaking, is needed to turn off a street light…I have a Tiablo A9 with aspheric head, which I must try. Might be hard due to the steep angle from the ground to the light sensor? Thanks,HB

Just to spoil the fun, round here all the streetlights are now radio controlled from a central location.

cover light with black paper :cowboy_hat_face:

here is the best lightning land of the world. here it is a great light pollution streetlights everywhere

nobody have flashlights of they are very crap.

Since the sensor is on top of the fixture here, I find I need to have a tree over the streetlight. Light up the top of the tree and it goes off.

I live out in the country and they have one damn streetlight not far from me. They put a little complex back in for some high end houses. Apparently the idiots can’t find their road without a light on and don’t comprehend that out in the country we like it dark. Ticks me off, I keep thinking about putting that sucker out for good but my wife keeps talking me out of it. It’s a good thing I quit drinking because if I hadn’t that thing would be in twenty pieces by now.

There is no way for me to hit the sensor with a light. Trust me I have tried and I have very good lights for the job.

Actually that makes it more fun if you can turn the entire city off!

I live in the mountains and can point down to hit the sensor on several of the street lights here. I’ve used one of my Surefire Hellfighters a few times to turn one of them off. Now that I’ve done it, the thrill is gone.

Quite sophisticated system, they can vary the output on the fly at any time. in fact they lower the level after 11:30pm every night.
