Oshpark Projects

It was designed with 3A per in mind and in fact he and Pilotptk crammed 7 XML’s onto a similar 20 mm board. Enough solder to fill the vias without floating the LEDs would be ideal.

7 XM-Ls on a 20mm board? SuperMule! (TM) Blinding in direct drive, for around 15 seconds at a time!

I have to find Scaru’s thread on that one but I don’t remember if he ever did any beam shots. It’d be a hoot to see a video of it.

I have couple of ideas for PCB designing gurus here:
8mm, 10mm and 12mm wide round boards for 4 pin momentary push buttons (button on one side and soldering points for wires on the other side):

20mm, 22mm, 24… up to 30mm battery contact boards with solder mask for clean spring soldering, like this one:

I would do that by myself, have Eagle installed but that stuff requires some serious training, not possible to get results overnight unfortunately. :_(
Also, if someone has enough time and will to arrange NANJG 105c components to specific PCB dimensions please let me know, THANKS

Sirius9, a similar idea was done by Old Lumens on a copper pipe build using a star to solder the switch. Here
Pretty nifty in its simplicity, but I like your idea, that would make things more simple for the drivers that can use a momentary switch.

P.S.: I too suffer from a lack of knowledge on those design programs.

Subscribed :-)

Switch pcb’s are dependent on switch terminal layout so a different one would be needed for each size and terminal layout. It may be that someone has already done some switch pcb’s, have you searched at all? Oshpark doesn’t seem to have an internal search function and projects are seen in reverse order of submition. I like the idea though and am certainly willing to have different subsections of Oshpark projects indexed in the op.

The momentary switch with pcb steel, it's a great idea!

I mounted one of the zebra on SC600, another life!

I tried Eagle, after a couple of hours, I was able to understand a little how it works, it is not difficult, congratulations to all the boys here!

It would make a great beginner project.

Where does one get downloads of eagle?

We are into suggestions now, right?

And I am not into Eagle, and will never be as long as I can get other people (who are far better in doing that than I will ever be) to design what I would like to see

Ok, I would not mind a triple AA battery carrier (the diameter would be 32mm), for direct driving a modern led on copper with Eneloops. It could be something like what I picture below, but I am sure it can be thought out better than I just did in a hurry, and the better design is very probably already there somewhere. The design could be accompanied by a contact board for the head part.

(And I guess a 4xAA battery carrier would come in handy also).

I never thought of a battery pack… A 2S2P 18650 pack, that would be cool too.

Edit: I just answered my own question from earlier post. Eagle for the hobbyist is $169! That’s a lot of batteries, lights, emitters, copper etc. maybe we could commission designs for a small fee?

Oh yes, I knew I forgot something, battery carriers  thanks djozz
how cool would it be if we had 3xAA serial, 4xAA serial and maybe 2S2P because I remember looking at Sunwayman D40A battery carrier and thinking how nicely it is made, would be good to copy that design. Also 3x18650 serial and parallel and 4x18650 serial, 2S2P and parallel…
This is not hard to do (on paper but I doubt that OSH Park accepts hand drawings), and it was one of the reasons I instaled Eagle but I thought it would be like: add board, specify shape and diameter, add pads, via holes, solder mask and milling marks but after about 30 minutes I couldn’t even find how to draw a board shape I expected to see component libraries and then just drag & drop resistor, d&d mcu btu noooo. :frowning:
It’s discouraging to think that it would take me 2 days if not even more to make something that PCB gurus here would do in just 5 minutes…

If anyone has anything they want designed in Eagle please PM me and I'll see what I can do. Please note it helps if YOU have a very good idea about what you're after first. I find it difficult to get motivated if I'm doing all the thinking on a project I have no meaningful/personal attachment to. Sounds odd I know lol.

I’d very much like to encourage projects and think each one should have its own design thread that can be linked to here but having them mixed up here would be a mess. Matt is good at this and these are great topics for general forum discussion as they can be very inclusive, stimulating a lot of input. I think battery carriers and switch plates are am excellent idea. Try and be specific when labeling them so that those using them later get the right ones.

Yeah I need to improve my 'finishing'. Labeling, revision status etc. Because of the numerous versions of the same designs I got a little lost with where each was at and thats why we ended up with a few boards missing rear ground points.

You know what they say - practice makes perfect :)

+1 on the 4 x aa battery carrier as per RBD. Serial and parallel. I could probably sketch something up with rough dimensions in DraftSight. Its the boards I would not know how to tackle.

There are too many layers in the EAGLE you are switching here and there. It is very possible you will omit somethings. After finished my layout design, I always transfer it to Gerber Files and then double check the layout layers by Viewplot ( Gerber Viewer ).

Check again… they have a free version that is limited to small-ish two layer boards and a single page schematic.
