Are there any smart chargers that will charge 18650 and NiMH batteries?

One of the dumbest smart chargers that will do that is the Nitecore i2/i4. There are a couple much smarter chargers coming out that should be available this year.

Only “Hobby chargers”. But there seems to be some new chargers coming. There are a few threads about that here.

Search for “Opus BT-C3100” or “Hobby charger”.

The SoShine SC7 will do 18650 and NiMH batteries, and it gives a pretty decent reading of the capacity of lithium cells. The main disadvantage is that it does one cell at a time and you can’t reduce charging currents. HKJ has the definitive review (surprise), but I find it a good and safe charger. My copy stops the charge at 4.18v. Picked mine up for $14 some time last year.

By “smart” I assumed that you meant that the charger could both discharge and charge Li-Ion and NiMh, and also analyze the process and tell you what capacity the battery has. But perhaps you only meant smart enough to charge both NiMh and Li-Ion?

On my sc-7, AAA’s come out a tad hot Ive noticed (new Eneloops). None of the other sizes do (AA and 18650 (Panasonic 3400’s and some laptop pulls at around 2250), its all Ive tried in it).

And as noted re smart charger, no discharge facility. But I believe ‘smart’ refers to the technology used to charge, not the existence of a discharge feature.

A smart charger is usual defined as a NiMH charger that terminates when the battery is full, compared to the non-smart chargers that charges a fixed time.
