LEADBELLY, ***BEAM SHOTS***, built by southland, 2014 scratch made light contest, handmade

That’s an impressive set of components to start with. I am excited to see what you have planned.

Good Luck!!

How much did that slab of copper run you? Daggum!

Kind of wishing I hadn’t started this thing only because of the cost, $50 for the plate. Just hope I can finish and have a working light in the end. The reason for the name “Leadbelly” is because of the weight of the light, it won’t be an EDC.

I'm guesstimating the size of that piece of copper. I would have to say $50 is a very good price. I hear you on the kind of wishing you hadn't started. The reasonable, thrifty side of me is saying, "What are you doing, Man!". The other side is saying "Yeah Man, lets go!". I'm trying to not let the reasonable side win. Even though, that side is usually right. I'll just be happy if I complete my build.

EDIT: Reworded to make more sense.

It’s not that big but it’s heavy, 4’ x 12’ x 1/4’, an aluminum plate is going behind the copper plate, will probably only use half or less of the copper.

Hey, nothing exceeds like excess! Looking forward to the excitement.

Looks like it is going to end as a badass.

By the way do you think those reflectors can fit in the HD2010?

Way too deep for a HD2010. There is not much of a selection when trying to find big reflectors.

That is where I got the name, posted this video in the sign up thread. Not my favorite blues musician but he’s OK. Probably should have used the name Copperbelly but I had rather use the name of a musician than a snake.

I think you are going to make a light box to put in front of your truck

Rules state it has to be handheld.

But you can push other trucks off the street with that amount of light. >)
Beautiful arrangement of parts in the OP, I’m curious to see what you make out of it!

Lumens, anyone?

So are you planning a big unveiling or is progress going slow for you on your build?

I've got both situations. Keeping the surprises to the end, but I'm starting to get concerned I may not have a finished product in time to unveil.

Don’t forget the asbestos gloves. Looking forward to your light.

Surprise is overrated. But then again even I don’t know what something will look like finished. It would be easier to just post the finished light and skip the hours of bad photography and prose but the rules say we need to document our progress. I have to admit that reading the other progress reports does help keep me inspired. I’m thinking of adding a teaser pic section in my op for those who don’t feel like scrolling past old pics. I should have reserved a post for each days work( maybe 50 or so).

No rule breaking here. To be honest, I will be surprised if any of my surprises work. They can't be made until I build the basic light. So everyone will be surprised very shortly after I'm surprised. I guess I just don't want to advertise what I'm fearful I may not be able to deliver.

Aside for that, I didn't realize there was a time requirement for posting our interim progress. I generally post at the end of a mod session so that I won't be over whelmed trying to document later.

There are no surprises, only procrastination. Too much to do and not enough time. Posted some photos of my progress so far in post #1. The updates in post #1 were actually done 12 days ago, going to try and get something done now. Sorry for the late start.

I’m right with you on all of that. Mine jumps around because I either get stuck or find three other bits that need to be done first, then three more…Finally you get to the point where it’s fish or cut bait cause you can’t find any more “other things to do” before that big question mark step.

Not sure if it’s a time requirement so much as an aid to the judges following the process of each one. Frankly, I find watching the other builds rejuvenating both marveling at others’ ingenuity and commiserating with set backs.
