LEADBELLY, ***BEAM SHOTS***, built by southland, 2014 scratch made light contest, handmade

Hey, nothing exceeds like excess! Looking forward to the excitement.

Looks like it is going to end as a badass.

By the way do you think those reflectors can fit in the HD2010?

Way too deep for a HD2010. There is not much of a selection when trying to find big reflectors.

That is where I got the name, posted this video in the sign up thread. Not my favorite blues musician but heā€™s OK. Probably should have used the name Copperbelly but I had rather use the name of a musician than a snake.

I think you are going to make a light box to put in front of your truck

Rules state it has to be handheld.

But you can push other trucks off the street with that amount of light. >)
Beautiful arrangement of parts in the OP, Iā€™m curious to see what you make out of it!

Lumens, anyone?

So are you planning a big unveiling or is progress going slow for you on your build?

I've got both situations. Keeping the surprises to the end, but I'm starting to get concerned I may not have a finished product in time to unveil.

Donā€™t forget the asbestos gloves. Looking forward to your light.

Surprise is overrated. But then again even I donā€™t know what something will look like finished. It would be easier to just post the finished light and skip the hours of bad photography and prose but the rules say we need to document our progress. I have to admit that reading the other progress reports does help keep me inspired. Iā€™m thinking of adding a teaser pic section in my op for those who donā€™t feel like scrolling past old pics. I should have reserved a post for each days work( maybe 50 or so).

No rule breaking here. To be honest, I will be surprised if any of my surprises work. They can't be made until I build the basic light. So everyone will be surprised very shortly after I'm surprised. I guess I just don't want to advertise what I'm fearful I may not be able to deliver.

Aside for that, I didn't realize there was a time requirement for posting our interim progress. I generally post at the end of a mod session so that I won't be over whelmed trying to document later.

There are no surprises, only procrastination. Too much to do and not enough time. Posted some photos of my progress so far in post #1. The updates in post #1 were actually done 12 days ago, going to try and get something done now. Sorry for the late start.

Iā€™m right with you on all of that. Mine jumps around because I either get stuck or find three other bits that need to be done first, then three moreā€¦Finally you get to the point where itā€™s fish or cut bait cause you canā€™t find any more ā€œother things to doā€ before that big question mark step.

Not sure if itā€™s a time requirement so much as an aid to the judges following the process of each one. Frankly, I find watching the other builds rejuvenating both marveling at othersā€™ ingenuity and commiserating with set backs.

Better late than never. So someone said. It all looks interesting.

Wonā€™t wait this long next time. About 20 hours of work in post #2, at least I can see light at the end of the tunnel now, itā€™s still a long ways off.

Its starting to take shape. Yippee. Damn breaking the drill bits. I snapped one of in a copper pill in a build. Since then I have increased the drill speed dramatically and not had a problem. Hows the hearing after using the saw to cut the ally plate? Whats that you say. The reflectors, I wonder how they would go with an MTG-2?

Had the drill set real slow, will increase the speed next time, 1/8 inch bit is a small one and was taking my time and it still broke. Saw zipped through the plate in about 5 seconds, jigsaw took about 10 minutes and was even louder, the table saw didnā€™t give it enough time to gum up. Opening on reflector is 12.5mm, think itā€™s big enough for the MTG-2 without modding, no sure what the beam would look like.

Who ever thought that there could be furniture grade flashlites? Hope you can find the time to finish this potential Beauty and the Beast.
