Are there any updates? Since DX sold the SkyRay 6x for such a low price, I think there are quiet a few members who would be interested in a nice driver for this lamp …
As I finished my UF T20 mod, I am looking for a big one to fulfill my flashaholic needs ordered this DX deal. So YES, I’m interested in a descent and powerful driver. I have one consideration though: heat management. This might me a problem with 6 boosted leds.
BTW: I need 4 protected 18650’s for this SRK. What to choose:
Ok, just an update from my earlier post 6 months ago, instead of 1, count me in for 2! From the looks of it, by the time it actually comes out, it will literally be years in making, lol!
Haha, 6 months is Expedited Rush Shipping for DX. I believe those batteries only get shipped with Free Standard Shipping, which is 6-12 months :)
As for this driver, I use to be interested in it, until I saw the driver Dr. Jones I'd working on for the SkyRay King! Note that driver is really a nice piece of art once it gets completed.
I love Dr Jones’ work. It’s tunable, has more options, but I’d still rather Texaspyro’s for my SRK. It more aesthetically pleasing, and without the many extras added for other projects, I have no doubt that this design will be cooler running.
I guess the answer is to pick up more SRKs and get them all
Yeah, I ordered the SRK & NCR18650’s at DX a few weeks ago. Both items should be on stock, but proved out-of-stock. Seems the SRK is shipped today. Still waiting for the NCR’s to be shipped and a response to the ticket I opened 1 week ago.
Bottom-line: don’t expect reliable inventory info and communication. Have some patience and you can have nice deals though.
I don’t know the number of led this will drive, but the max I have seen a srk clone is six leds, so to drive that you would have each channel driving two leds at half the current each.
Ah, you have clearly not experienced the wonder of the 7x SRK clone! I have two, they’re actually pretty nice. Have solid drivers. I’m building some 32x 7135-based drivers soon (waiting on parts) and I plan to just run the LEDs in parallel, and connect the two lead wires to the beginning of the array, and just call it a day. I don’t think I’ll run into any issues if I use heavy-gauge wire.
I built mine 32*7135…it works, but I think I zorched it (while trying to get it in the head shorted out one of the 7135’s so now it stays on all the time…uggh) but on my 3x XM-L it is bright as heck and using STAR_mom V1.0 it works great, quick clicks scroll thru lo~~hi in 5 steps, long button presses go hi~~>lo…due to whatever I did to the chips when I smelled smoke it will no longer completely shut off…seems to drop to like a very very low glow but not completely off
I need to get the V2 w/ the tabs so it will press fit in the head, the V1 works just fine…but it was loose in the head
Remember you need to make a few solder “feet” to thicken the driver so it gets good ground ring contact
Good luck
This looks like a pretty awesome project. I’d love to replace my SRK driver with this, if it’s possible to buy assembled drivers. (or even just buy a new SRK already modded with this, since mine is one of the old original models)
