FastTech SolarStorm SC01/02/03 lights

actually it’s not that bad… it’s not noticeable unless you pointed to the fan

OOH OOOH OOOOH!!! Waves hands…if you are gonna chuck the SC01…I claim dibs

And yeah…the PWM on stock lights just bother the heck out of me…this is why I started running custom firmware on Nanjg 105C’s and upping the PWM frequency…the light looks more “solid” rather than flickery…kinda like changing the refresh rate to 70-75hz on an old CRT vs the 60hz…you CAN see the difference

My SC01 and SC03 are getting close, supposedly on the island, but getting bumped around - "out for delivery" one day, then next at a sort facility, yikes! This hasn't happened to me for a while. Hoping in the next day or 2, then I'll do some thorough measurements - amps, output, take a lookie at the drivers, etc.

want me to bring it over tonight Tom so we can test the output on this light?

How bright are these in the real world?
I am more interested in the 14500 version but the specs are better on the 16340 version so I am confused. I would expect at least 350 lumen from a 14500 light…

If someone disassembles theirs please take some pictures and measurements…

I am using CR123A primary in the SC03s I am keeping in my cars’ glove compartments. From what I understand, Lithium primaries are better for glove compartment use due to their long lives and extreme temperature tolerance.

My extremely scientific conclusion is “Them lights put out plenty o’lumens with CR123A” The battery will probably last less than 10 minutes on High mode!

hmm… I never try to light it that long, I should give it a try and see how long does it last on HIGH mode and see if there’s any protection against heat

Lights with electronic switches have always a parasitic standby current, how high this is depends on the driver. Just think of that(or test it) if you want to use a light in a glove box for longer periods….

Hmm . . . do these (particulalry the SC01 which I'm due to receive in a few days) do tailcap lockout easy enough because I do intend to keep it in a glovebox?

This is what my FT package is going through. Kings Park isn't my regular post office, so could show up today, could take a week more...

That will work if I don’t like them. Or maybe trade one for a mod on another one. They should be here in a week or two.

DayLighter - does a 18350 fit in the SC03?

No Tom… it won’t fit

the tail cap be turn just about 1” and it lock the light (SC03)
so no worries about draining the battery here

Well if anyone doesn’t like the SC01 then I can say the Roche F6 is flippin’ awesome for a few bucks more. I think it was $22 at Fasttech with the BLF discount.

But that's apple's to oranges, AA/14500 / 18650. Perhaps you mean SC02?

-Garry

Ahh, yes, sorry. Whichever one takes the 18650, the Roche should be a good alternative.

Crap, would have been a nice option... Might be enough wall thickness to shave it out with a lathe , but I'm clueless there.

Edit 4:08PM: USPS status is now delivered! So, should be there when I get home... I'll report this eve.

Ok, got them!! Here's some comparative pics.

In the packing with a G10:

With a few recognizable AA's and Mini-01:

Just the AA's:

Ok - the good news is these lights are pretty hot with good LIon cells.

SC01 w/Sanyo UR14500P 840mAh @4.20v, 1.62A tailcap - lumens: 544 @start, 513 @30 secs, throw: 5 kcd

SC03 w/Efest IMR 550 V2 @4.20v, 1.60A tailcap - lumens: 517 @start, 466 @30 secs, throw: 4.5 kcd

  • These #'s do seem consistent for this level of amps and an XM-L2 T6 emitter (comparable to my BLF mini-01)
  • The 2 lights appear to have the same exact reflector (same size, etc.)
  • all trim that looks like SS does appear to be real SS (bezel, around the switch, clip)

So far, looks like a real bargain on these lights. Threads were dry, but little Nyogel makes a big diff. Now to see how they dismantle...

Can you please measure brightness on low mode? Thanks.
