FastTech SolarStorm SC01/02/03 lights

No Tom… it won’t fit

the tail cap be turn just about 1” and it lock the light (SC03)
so no worries about draining the battery here

Well if anyone doesn’t like the SC01 then I can say the Roche F6 is flippin’ awesome for a few bucks more. I think it was $22 at Fasttech with the BLF discount.

But that's apple's to oranges, AA/14500 / 18650. Perhaps you mean SC02?

Ahh, yes, sorry. Whichever one takes the 18650, the Roche should be a good alternative.

Crap, would have been a nice option... Might be enough wall thickness to shave it out with a lathe , but I'm clueless there.

Edit 4:08PM: USPS status is now delivered! So, should be there when I get home... I'll report this eve.

Ok, got them!! Here's some comparative pics.

In the packing with a G10:

With a few recognizable AA's and Mini-01:

Just the AA's:

Ok - the good news is these lights are pretty hot with good LIon cells.

SC01 w/Sanyo UR14500P 840mAh @4.20v, 1.62A tailcap - lumens: 544 @start, 513 @30 secs, throw: 5 kcd

SC03 w/Efest IMR 550 V2 @4.20v, 1.60A tailcap - lumens: 517 @start, 466 @30 secs, throw: 4.5 kcd

  • These #'s do seem consistent for this level of amps and an XM-L2 T6 emitter (comparable to my BLF mini-01)
  • The 2 lights appear to have the same exact reflector (same size, etc.)
  • all trim that looks like SS does appear to be real SS (bezel, around the switch, clip)

So far, looks like a real bargain on these lights. Threads were dry, but little Nyogel makes a big diff. Now to see how they dismantle...

Can you please measure brightness on low mode? Thanks.

Deal, I am still working on the 15mm FET 15DD (East-92 type driver) in a SK68 haven’t tested yet…or any of the 15/17/20DD FET drivers

Oh boy... The lowest I can set low seems to be 56 lumens. But... With the light off, if you hold the switch down, it starts ramping up, and the first level is 14 lumens. I'm really not sure though about the lowest you can set low mode. Seems like the #'s are all over the place, and once you raise low, it's hard to get it back low. ............ If you can understand that, I envy you!

This programmed low mode is rather confusing to me right now....

Edit: I can't seem to budge the head from the body tube - not sure if glued or one piece. I got the bezel off though, definite SS, 1 o-ring under the glass, nothing between the glass and bezel. The star is screwed down by 2 screws, there's definitely an aluminum plate that the aluminum star sits on. There's some thickness to the star/pill top combo. I tried pushing the driver out from the tube, and tried unscrewing the star/pill from the top - no luck either way. It seems like this may be it for the light.

Weird -- there are 3 wires soldered to the star, not two. Labeled: L-, L+, and V-. Anyone ever see anything like that? I haven't.

Reflector dimensions: 20.7mm outer width, 13mm outer depth.

I'm pretty certain both lights have 17mm drivers -- may be useless info if can't get access to the pill or driver though...

Thanks for the lumen measurement and comparison pic.
Just ordered the 14500 version.

How does it behave on nimh?

Just popped in a Eneloop Pro (from Chibi) and got 102 lumens on high.

Hi. Would you recommend the SC03?

These are impressive little lights, stock as they are, both the SC01 and SC03 -- I'd recommend both at this point, at this price.

SC01 readings look promising. With higher output and cell capacity, I think I will choose SC01 over SC03.

@Tom E
How does the button feels like? Will it be it easily activated if placed inside a pocket?

you can lock it out by turning the bottom cap a little bit
BTW wife saw the light and now it’s gone :_(

The buttons feel about perfect to me - not too easy, not too hard. They even have a nice audible click, so another bio feedback feature. Maybe not as recessed as they could be - definitely bumps out from the profile. No where as easy though as a SupFire M6 for example -- the M6 did activate in my bag and burned a tri-spot mark into a towel I had it wrapped in.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered on 1st Apr, but I have been checking on the shipment status everyday! Haha. Will probably be making my second order very soon.

I hope it’s very, very soon… ’cos I ordered 6 more it’s going to run out soon as this light become very popular and they might increase the price too :Sp

Its a shame that the anodizing is shiny and matches a sk68. Hopefully they can work on a flat anodizing like solarstorm k2
