FastTech SolarStorm SC01/02/03 lights

Thanks for the lumen measurement and comparison pic.
Just ordered the 14500 version.

How does it behave on nimh?

Just popped in a Eneloop Pro (from Chibi) and got 102 lumens on high.

Hi. Would you recommend the SC03?

These are impressive little lights, stock as they are, both the SC01 and SC03 -- I'd recommend both at this point, at this price.

SC01 readings look promising. With higher output and cell capacity, I think I will choose SC01 over SC03.

@Tom E
How does the button feels like? Will it be it easily activated if placed inside a pocket?

you can lock it out by turning the bottom cap a little bit
BTW wife saw the light and now it’s gone :_(

The buttons feel about perfect to me - not too easy, not too hard. They even have a nice audible click, so another bio feedback feature. Maybe not as recessed as they could be - definitely bumps out from the profile. No where as easy though as a SupFire M6 for example -- the M6 did activate in my bag and burned a tri-spot mark into a towel I had it wrapped in.

Daylighter and Tom E

Thanks for the replies. I ordered on 1st Apr, but I have been checking on the shipment status everyday! Haha. Will probably be making my second order very soon.

I hope it’s very, very soon… ’cos I ordered 6 more it’s going to run out soon as this light become very popular and they might increase the price too :Sp

Its a shame that the anodizing is shiny and matches a sk68. Hopefully they can work on a flat anodizing like solarstorm k2

Thank you very much for the info Tom E. They really are very bright. I can not wait to receive my family of Solarstorm SC.

Can you measure Lumens with AA in SC01? Thanks.

wow really? i thought the mini 01 was the brightest smallest 16340 there was.
shoot, im not up to date then haha.
now im gonna have to order one of these!

I guess that the sc01 with NiMh will have a lower low than with a 14500 on low…. anyone can confirm??
thanks!

Here's detail shots on the star

The plastic LED alignment piece is very low profile - a good one:

This shows that extra 3rd wire connection:

Is the star glued down?

Could the sc03 be bored out to take an 18350?

No - it has thermal grease under it, from the looks. The star definitely moves on the pill top when the screws are out.

"Bored out for 18350's?" - I'm no expert there, but the walls look pretty thin where the threads are, but the 18350's are close to fitting. In fact I was wondering if there are 18350's out there thinner than the ones I tried.

In the last pic above, you may notice a scratch on the right at the edge of the pill - this is where I tried unscrewing the pill with a needlenose, but to no avail - the needlenose slipped and put a deep scratch there.

I'd love to put in a XM-L2 T6 4C on copper, but the wiring looks iffy - '+' and '-' out the same hole, so if no slack, may not be able to do so. Also there's the mystery of the 3rd wire... If I could get the pill out, I'd upgrade the wires anyway.

What can you say about the tint of the leds?

If you can, it would be wonderful know how many lumens out with NIMH.

Thanks.

Post #55 - the Eneloop Pro's are NiMH cells, I believe. Didn't try alkaline cells though, but think they will be about double NiMH's?

Sorry, did not see that post.

102 lm certainly low light, but enough for an emergency.
