3* looks like snow white (or “pure” white) and is ok for general use, where cool white in the 1* or 0* range look blueish or purplish, but 4* and 5* range are warmer and somewhat “vanilla-ish” (lol) which is pleasant and a very noticeably warmer than cool white LEDs, it renders skin tones and foliage better and gives greater depth perception, at the expense of very little luminosity.
I ordered mine on April 4 and is on it’s way from BG. It seems that they bumped up the price and give you the 28% discount. I used the same code and it worked out to be the same price.
It is too bad that I missed Simon’s promo for the L4 for $5.
I wonder exactly how warm the T6-4C is. I actually like the tint of my SRK T6 when I was comparing it with one of my XM-L2 U2-1A flashlights. Was putting both at a bush last night, and the SRK has noticeably better looking colors. I do know that I bought some high CRI XM-L2's a while back and man is the warm color uglyyyyy. I'm definitely more of a cool white/neutral white person
4c will be a neutral tint. I’ve got a few 3c lights and they are okay. I tend to prefer pure cool white 1A and mostly stay away from 5+. A good 1A has no bluish or purple hue to it, just cool pure white awesomeness.
Where you tend to see cool white with purple/blue hue is in cheapo budget lights where they use cheap emitters to save on costs.
There are a lot of pics showing beamshots of different tints; don’t have time to look em’ up though, sorry.
Tough call. I have a Tangsfire C8 with the East-092 driver and a Convoy L4. They are really similar lights. The hotspot on my C8 is a tiny bit smaller, but the overall spill beam width is exactly the same.
Pointing both lights across the room towards my light meter (I’m too lazy to measure the distance) the C8 reads 3500 Lux, the L4 reads 5500 Lux. I can not see that difference. The tighter hotspot on the C8 seems slightly brighter to my eyes. Maybe because the C8 is a cooler emitter.
The side switch on the L4 is not waterproof. It is water resistant, but not waterproof. The C8 should be much more water resistant that the L4.
The big difference is the user interface. I like dual switch lights. Every time I turn on the light, it will be in the same mode. I can turn it on and off as fast as I want and it won’t change modes or go into some weird super disco strobe mode.
If I could only get one, it would be the L4.
I forgot- there’s one other big difference between the C8 type lights and the L4. The L4 has a buck, or boost/buck driver. I know it’s a buck driver because it can run on one cell or two and it has no PWM. I’m not sure if it is a boost driver though. Haven’t had time to test that.
Thanks for the info TT. Does anyone know where I can get a STAINLESS STEEL BEZEL for this flashlight? I think I read it can take a C8 bezel, but not sure. Please let me know.
For some reason, I love a light with a nice shiny stainless steel beezel. Adds a little class!
