I have to say I would normally agree with your line of thought, AAA are a little too low on capacity, but I have to say it does look like an interesting torch. A lot like a mini Klarus P2A.
If they come back on sale at Wallbuys I’ll pick one up, I think.
so far i am impressed with this light. It compares to the best of the other Penlights i have costing 3 times as much. It seems to be atleast the rated 120 LM or even a bit more, and the tail cap reading i got was 0.61 amps on fresh AA Alcalines, and the run time was around 3 hours. It seems to be regulated, as it held a constant brightness for most of the run time, ( though only has 1 mode)
It has a coated glass lens, XP-E Cree emitter. The quality and finish seems to be very good for the price, The name was Laser etched in the side quite well, and it even came with grease on the smooth threads !
I liked it enough i ordered another 5 of them.
I am currently EDCing my trusty Pelican 1920. It is almost perfect for my needs. I work on elevators so I use it for inspections, working in dark elevator shafts, finding my way around dark basements and attics. I use it for repairs by holding it in my teeth. I have wrapped a few layers of electrical tape around the end to make it easy on the teeth.
With good Eneloops, the runtime is plenty for a full days work. I use my light about 60-90 mins a day. Since I have morphed to the 3 gen Eneloop, I have never run out of juice in a single day. Sometimes I go 2 days if I don’t use it much.
The Hugsby is actually my second favorite penlight. It only gets docked because it has a forward clicky and is not as throwy as my Pelican. These may not be cons depending on what you want. I like forward clicky, one mode, protruding button, throwy penlights.
The Hugsby has a surprisingly nice tint and beam. Very smooth and even. It’s thinner and lighter than the Pelican so it may not be as durable but it makes a more true penlight this way and doesn’t sag a shirt pocket as much.
I clip my penlight to the left side front pants pocket and my knife on the right side. They are my two EDCs and always ready to get into action quickly. My knife is a old Benchmade 921s Switchback that I have been carrying everyday for almost a decade. When something works, I keep it. My Pelican 1920 has been reliable as the mail and it would take a pretty dang good penlight to replace it at this point. The Hugsby is a great light and some may prefer it due to different features.
I have gifted 2 of my three and will probably give my 3rd away this week to a co-worker who has lost his Streamlight Stylus Pro. I will order 2 more to have because a good penlight is nice to have around.
I still use one alot at work in my Work shirt, i drop it on concrete, bang it around, and it stil works great. Nice output for a 2-AAA pen-sized light.
I got some for gifts and kept one for myself. Nice light, especially for the price! Got me interested again in the penlight size format, which has some nice pluses: useful floody beam, slim and thus pocketable. Lovely!
I am so enthusiast that I would like to mod it to make it a perfect edc and I have some ideas: 2 levels w/o memory, nichia 219 led, ground tailcap so the boot protrudes better (it actually doesn’t allow for tailstanding but still gets in the way as those that do), forward clickie switch instead of the rear clickie it actually sports.
Would some of the folks here enlighten me on which driver to get and where? Ideally it should work in the 0.9-3.0v range to allow for use with 1xAAA battery only. Also, I don’t know where to find a forward clickie to replace. Thank you!
I have not tried the 2 AAA, but I bought six of the 1 AAA from a seller on eBay. It is single mode, and I have given 4 away. I like it, and carry it with an alkaline battery so I can give it away if I find someone who needs one, such as an elderly lady from church.
Is the single AAA brightness comparable to the 2 AAA version? I’m glad to hear that the brightness seems somewhat legit on the 2 AAA version. I got a Streamlight Protac 2 AAA for christmas and I love it but I’d like a backup just in case and I don’t want to spend $30 on a new one right now.
Yes, the clip is lower profile without the bump, tail cap rubber is really shiny, reflector is smooth and the reflector and glass can be removed on the fakes. Best getting them from a proven vender like E-bays Tomtop because even if the pictures are of the real XP-1 they can still send you fakes. I’ve got two fakes from a vendor on Aliexpress and one real one from Tomtop. Should be getting two more from Tomtop any day now.
One other thing, the fakes only kick out about 30-40 ice cold lumens.
