I purchased one of these lights and I got it today. It came DHL, 6 days.
Anyhow, I will use it for the modding video and review. What I found strange, was a letter that came with it from "sammydress.com" Now who the hell is sammydress.com? It's got to be another website of GearBest. No telling who the real companies are here. I don't know what the deal is, but anyhow, I just thought everyone should be aware.
I will do a review of it and the mod later on this week.
I haven’t taken it apart, but I will post all of that tonight, when I get home from work and I have a few minutes to tear it down. It looks like a glass lens, XM-L, Aluminum reflector and it has “Ultrafire” on one side of the body, but the other side just says XM-L U2, no designation that it’s an F13.
Looks like the led shelf is solid, made as part of the head, not removable and it looks like probably about 500 lumens at most on high, maybe a little less, so it's severely underpowered, which I would expect for a light with a thin wall. Can't tell much more till I tear it down.
Thanks for the update OL. Without trying to hassle you this light I think I read somewhere is supposed to have next mode memory. Does it and if so will the pencil line fix it? No hurry in the answer. Cheers.
OK, so it is definitely an XM-L, an Aluminum reflector, glass lens (possibly coated), driver is just as RaceR86 shows in his photo, so you know how to mod it from that.
Also, instead of using the 153 resistor circled in green, supposedly you can just use pencil lead and pencil across the capacitator there.
So, the driver has 5 modes, H/M/L/fast strobe/SOS and Next mode memory. The led shelf is part of the head, no removable pill, but that doesn't bother me very much.
What would I do with it? An XM-L2 on a copper star, a NANJG driver, probably one from Kaidomain, (the V2 ones they have). I am getting to where I don't much care for the Qlites, with their flickering in moonlight, but that's just me... That's about all I would do. I think a copper star on the stock led shelf, would take 4 amps no problem. Then I would do the copper braid mod for the two springs and use a 26650 and be happy...
I will post a "review and mod" thread later on, but the mod is a one off, using the guts from a reflex mirror light I had.
It’s a good news that you’ve got your light, thanks for organize this group buy, it’s over 100 units now.
it’s also wonderful that you will do a modding video and review, thanks very much.
About the letter, we confirmed from the supplier, it was placed in wrong package in ours, they also supply something fashion for other sites, sorry for this inconvenience, we will be more careful to our product packages.
Anyone having issues, just contact GearBest via PM using their forum membership here. It's their ball game this time. I'm not running the middle man thing again, too much stress
