Trustfire Mini 01 clones

Banggood has one for $8 http://www.banggood.com/CREE-XM-L-T6-1000LM-Pocketable-Mini-LED-Keychain-Flashlight-Black-p-921521.html?currency=USD
Would be a better alternative to mini-01 with XP-G2 and that SMO reflector.

My mini-01 mod runs on CR123A for 4-5 hours on high, 40-50 hours on low. 100 lumen high, about 10 lumen on low. .37 sense draws about 270mA on high…. .27 works well on CR123A too. …. Low Lumen, long run time.

From the pics. looks like these clones have smooth reflector too.

US $2.59 + Shipping Cost. 30g.

I also ordered one (red, for my keychain) and we will see how it works out! I’m going to try my hand at OshPark in the coming weeks to see if I can make a 7135-based driver for this light. God help us all.

Scratch that, just going to use the 15DD V3.0 for both my SS and my new Al lights coming in, no sense in making it more difficult than it has to be.

I have gotten three of them off of evil bay for about $5 each. I like them. Very light weight even with the battery in. Perfect for a keychain light, the one thing they all had in common though was that the emitters were not centered. Not exactly a deal breaker but it would have been nice if they had spared the extra two seconds for a proper centering.

They did put down some kind of thermal paste but it was dried to a crisp and worse than nothing. So if you feel like taking the time to pull it apart to center them you might as well put some fresh thermal stuff down too.

Any idea what that comes to for a US zip code?
Website just says ‘will email you’ at the checkout page.

Probably at least $5 and they don’t seem to give a break if you buy more than one. You can try but I’m tired of trying to get deals from their site. I have managed to pick up one light that was a deal from them so they do deliver but they are a PITA to deal with.

I have only one light from them, and with the shipping it was not the lowest price. I am waiting for a shipping cost email. Not giving a break for multiple items is a bad problem with these small items.

The one from shenzhen-wholesale has a different one mode driver and Q5 emitter.
The bezel looks different, deeper as well.

It is clearly a cost cutting model, and may not come out much cheaper with shipping costs. But it is an interesting addition to this thread, anyway.

$6.98 to the US?

Ebay UK got different colors at about £4.20 (~ $7 ?)

I got the blue one and the chrome/silver one I ordered a few days ago. Shipping (to the east coast U.S.) was SUPER fast, and darn, these little things are bright. Definitely a good deal!

I got my Smiling Shark SS-508. It has less lumens but better throw than the TrustFire, as one would hope. However it is the first Smiling Shark light that I have found not working properly out of the box. These are simple twisties with the edge of the body contacting the driver to switch them on. This one has the driver contacting the head. The threads are anodized, but imperfectly so. So it is on when screwed tight and intermittent when loose. I will have to file the edge of the driver. Nice looking. Slightly longer than the TF but very light. Very nice keychain attachment, except for a simple ring that looks weak and I will replace with my smallest keyring. The hook looks secure, but I might replace it with a fishing swivel attachment to be sure.
The driver consists of two resistors in parallel. At least that makes it clear how to increase the output.
Added: I have it working now. At first the driver came out and in easily, but it got stuck and I took the whole head apart, which is hard for the usual reason that there were no notches on the pill to unscrew it. The pill is a thin aluminum ring, cut out for the star, but the driver butts against the pill and fits snugly in the head.
It weighs only 20 grams.

yours is probably the best in that you wont kill it with a 4.2v li-ion.
anymore i wont even look at anything i cant use a common rechargeable in.
how good is the thermal path from led to body?

Wait… are we saying the TF Mini01 will burn out if run on 16340? I have two on the way, with that intention.

Got one of the Aletos too, runs OK on CR123, and very good for a walking to the car type light.

if it has a boost converter yes.
the resistor type probably relies on low vf led to run cr123 .

Thanks for the heads up. I think frying them might annoy me slightly. How would I know which I have? They both list CR123 and 16340 as options, but both also state working voltage is 0.8 - 3.6v. One from FT, one from Kaidomain. The KD one was $5 dearer.

Are we talking about different lights in this thread? The ones I got were the “Aleto” ones from Ebay, e.g.:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251423101638?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I got that silver one and a blue one, and they both work fine with 16340 batteries. Modes are L-M-Strobe, and the modes work with 16340 also.

The thermal path of the SS-508 is not as bad as in some cheap lights. It is the hollowest pill I have seen, just a threaded ring notched to fit the star, but it fits the star and the body both snugly so heat can get out. I suspect it would not be over-driven with a 16340 cell. If it were, one could replace the two surface mount resistors.
For unprotected Li ions, it seems important not to have a boost driver. With CR123as, the boost would allow using the battery till it is discharged more, but would decrease the efficiency.

Just received my three SS-508 from banggood. Color is nice, but they all have defects. Scratched and one has even some red dots. It was well packed in bubbles and tape to prevent movement so it’s not from shipping. Probably factory rejects, not ideal to gift/resale.

Very bright with li-ions for XP-E, measured 0,35 A with Lifepo and 0.75 A with Li-ion at 3,7V. One mode, direct Drive, no boost.
