UltraFire WF-501B XM-L for 13.99 USD (manafont)

No, Kaidomain. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but most of the hosts and lights I've gotten from them and Lightake have been closer to the original than DX and t-mart. DX is notorious for swapping out to crap after the first good reviews, I suspect they do this on purpose. MF has been ok, but the recent Skyray 3xml incident shows they're not exactly immune to this.

These look like Ultrafire clones. I have the Ultrafire WF-502D body and it look the same as the pics, the threads are smooth and the writting on the tube is clear and of good quality.. The UltraFire WF-502B threads look rough and the writting is not as good. The original Ultrafire WF-502B at only $6.94 looks better. But it may be worth the price.

At MF, that dropin alone is $12.25. http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/generic-cree-t6-5modes-himidlostrobesos-memory-led-dropin-module-42v-max-p-5651

For the 501b, that's like buying the dropin and getting the host for $1.65... I'm really tempted to get this just to try the 28mm aspheric mod with the XM-L. It worked well with my XR-E R2 501b, but the light is so much more useable in stock form.

It's not the same drop-in and the one you said is

Good eye... they are obviously different drivers and this light is SMO instead of OP. I was just looking at the voltage limit specs. I still think it looks like a good deal though! Cool

I've just got MF L2 klone which has same driver as drop-in on a first link. Well, at least driver looks the same from outside. I'll check the current tommorow.

It's the same driver, as Kaidomain sell it:

The thing about the 501B is...it's just plain.

The 504 is such a nicer looking and feeling host, and it has a smooth SS bezel. The Skyray $8 host is also pretty nice.

I have a 501 and rarely use it just because it seems too cheaply made. However, I have had no reliability issues with it at all. Perhaps I should relegate it to glove box use. Now the 501A I like a lot better, as a mini-p60 host. I would probably like it even more if it has the SS bezel of the 504.

Strictly aesthetic, I know, but for $7 more why not get something you are more proud of...

I wonder if anyone has the ENTIRE Ultrafire collection of flashlights and knives. That would be quite a lot of stuff!

That looks like the same KD driver here so it should be pretty bright on a decent cell.

Just bought two WF-502B's. Will let you know how they turn up if they arrive.

yes they can..i bought some batteries for a friend and put her address and they went to her..paid with my paypal account..

Make sure you get a confirmation email from Manafont and well as PayPal. The first time I ordered I didn't get one from Manafont. It turns out after you pay with PayPal you have to hit the button that says return to Manafont. Otherwise they don't know you paid and you won't get an email.

It does the same thing an aspheric does for any emitter. It focuses the beam and you get the pattern of the emitter. In this case it will be a large pattern. It cuts out all the spill so in most cases you probably aren't going to want to do this with a XM-L. I've tried it by the way.

The emitter angle for a XM-L is wider than with a XR-E for instance so a reflector does a decent job in the first place. Also people generally want the spill from an XM-L. It also won't throw as far in the same size reflector/aspheric as a XR-E so it's generally not the best choice for using an aspheric.

If you use a XM-L in a large diameter reflector it will have decent throw and will put a lot more light where you want it. That's generally why someone might chose a XM-L over a XR-E in a particular application.

Then I guess it's not direct drive.

It most likely is. Specs are arbitrary.

As I've prommised I've measured current with L2 drop-in which should be the same as the one on pictures above. It was just about 3A with flamed trustfire at 4.20V. Wellknown MF Ultrafire drop-in pulled 3.4A with same battery. I'll try to find out wether is direct drive or not later this evening.

If regulated current shoud stay the same some time or even rise, right?

I ordered a WF-502B, thanks for pointing this out!

Sounds like a plan, but gotta be strict with my spending.

I have SF L2 laying around with XR-E :P

MF claims that last one is the "original"/genuine Ultrafire, but I wonder if it is. By far the best made 502b I've seen and own (from KD) doesn't have a separate battery compartment but is instead "straight-through" (battery + contacts p60 drop-in center) like every other p60 host (you can tell from the metal "button" between the battery and p60 compartment in the photos, the battery can't go all the way through the host if the drop-in is removed). It would be a strange case of clone besting the original if MF is correct.

Lightmalls has the same drop in and they state it as only 1Amp
