Just received 10 SRK's with no emitter shelf (aka heatsink), updated

That is totally SNAD. A thermal path to the body is critical. LED’s generate heat and that is why the body had cooling fins and such. I know you know that. Just giving you ammo for the claim. Demand a refund. This kind of crap needs to stop.

Unfortunately, yes. I have even received lights from a seller that I had previously purchased 40+ of the same light from that sent me a batch of 25 that were no good. You never quite know what you're going to get when you order these things.

Paging Bucket, I bet he could whip up some aluminum pills for you if the seller falls through and just offers a partial cash refund. While a super-thick shelf would be nice to have, I’m sure he could whip up something closer to the original thin piece at a reduced cost.

This is how my original gold SRK came…just a 3*XM-L 46mm aluminum star that sat on a shelf, no heatsink or anything, screwed directly to the back of the reflector

My new 6*XM-L2 I can’t even check because the bezel is glued on and so is the driver (and until I get my 3*XM-L one back up and running I don’t want to risk boogering up my only working SRK…even though the 3*XM-L was brighter than a 6*XM-L2 stock…bleh)

It even looks like they machined the threads off to make it a heatsinkless SRK too

There is a seller on Etsy that sells 50mm stamped copper rounds…going to get one of those and 3 XP-E/G 16mm sinkpads and direct solder bond them to that to rebuild my gold SRK…then might just go hole hog and fill the backside with say 1/4” of epoxy…can’t for the life of me understand why they would remove the heatsink threads…other than to make a buck off someone

sadly the clones of the real SRK are getting cheaper and cheaping out even more on design and parts. the emitters would likely burn the domes off, or melt the solder & fall off the triple-star after running for 10 minutes on high with a set of good high drain cells like 20Rs.

I’ve seen a bunch that have no threads for a heatsink, just a single triple/quad/etc MCPCB sitting on a 2-4mm lip. :weary:

This is the primary reason I recommend a Supfire M6 over any of the Chinese lottery SRK’s. Even at the SRK’s cheapest ~$25 it’s not worth the risk of getting a junk one. Spend a little more ($5-10 more, in most cases) and get a great quality flashlight.

This is why I've stuck with the gold Securitying: decent build quality, good stock driver, a threaded shelf, easy to mod. Who knows if that's what you're going to get if you order one today though? I had them send me a batch of crappy ones; I sent them back.

yeah i saw some go for 20-23$ on ebay was abit sus, i payed 75$ for my SRK when it first came out, my father uses it everynight for walks (hours or 2) for 2 years only now the threads worn off cannot be re attached. i thought it was 75$ well spent.

I hope things turn out well with getting some shelves or some kind of resolution. In the meantime… why did you pay Securitying prices for regular SRK clones? Did you not want the dumb name on them?

That was my total including (what turned out to be 3 day shipping from HK) and like I said these pretty much were securitylng’s- they have the red JB driver, the red negative contact board and they have XM-L2’s. My big attraction to them was the XM-L2’s reusing them I can save on buying 30 emitters @ $3 a piece so pretty much have to take $90 off that price.

The seller is being very responsive (tho quick to place blame with his suppliers), do you think I should open a paypal dispute now so he knows my intentions or just give him some time to figure out what to do? He has made it clear he doesnt have parts to send, so that leaves him finding them at some place over there and sending them to me, him paying me to pay bucket to make me them or just simply taking them back (him paying for shipping) and I get them from somewhere else.

Just for info, the light malls srk for $40 is the same! And that nice driver you are talking about has a 9926 fet, that can only give around 4.5A, not the nice fat one….
I think I also ordered my latest srk from the same supplier you are talking about…. :Sp
And can anyone please tell me where you can get a m6 for a few dollars more? ( Remembering that I am in South Africa, shipping is a bit of an issue…)
Thanks
Anton

4.2A, where are you getting these numbers? Maybe stock but these are great FET’s. I have built several of these exact drivers by piggybacking a ATTiny13A and they run ~18A of a set of 25R’s.

Maybe your talking about that’s the max from a resistor mod but these exact FET’s are capable of of nearly 5 times that when properly controlled, it’s the stock MCU that’s the problem.

Can you please take a pic of your driver, I will try to take a pic of mine and show you which component I am talking about? I will be very happy if I am wrong…

Hi again,

Sorry for lousy pics, used my tablet.
Q2 is the fet I am talking about, I believe it can deliver around 4.5A, it is marked 9926, are you saying this driver will deliver 15-20A with that fet?

I am not sure of the component that should be placed on Q1, I think that is the fet that delivers high current….

Quick update, hopefully good news, seller sent me an email asking why I felt this “Aluminum slice heatsink” wasnt enough, it pretty much proves my case, I’m giving him 24 hours to make an offer to fix this or I will be going to paypal, he pretty much provided me the only evidence I will need.

(this is his pic)

Flitsmal I t looks like you got a different board revision, Q1 is a different FET (N-channel). I have no idea about that 8 leg FET you have, on mine a normal (2 legs plus tab) FET is at Q1.

If you got that then you got what you paid for, as long as the stock light works as intended. If they have a returns policy, use it. Otherwise, you didn't bargain for a light that was good for modding, and the light you received isn't defective. That's just my opinion.

No that’s not what I got, that is his picture of what they “should be”, below is my picture of what they are.

Got ya! Now you've got some evidence.
