Just received 10 SRK's with no emitter shelf (aka heatsink), updated

Flitsmal I t looks like you got a different board revision, Q1 is a different FET (N-channel). I have no idea about that 8 leg FET you have, on mine a normal (2 legs plus tab) FET is at Q1.

If you got that then you got what you paid for, as long as the stock light works as intended. If they have a returns policy, use it. Otherwise, you didn't bargain for a light that was good for modding, and the light you received isn't defective. That's just my opinion.

No that’s not what I got, that is his picture of what they “should be”, below is my picture of what they are.

Got ya! Now you've got some evidence.

That pic from the seller is almost just as bad as having the mcpcb floating. :Sp

New update (also paypal case opened but seller is still responding at this point so not escalating it yet)

5 of the lights have heatsinks! Not the normal screw in shelves like I’m used to, these are just drop-in pieces and the I.D. threads on the body have been removed on those 5 lights. This means even if he supplies me with 5 of this style HS I would have to turn them down or turn the threads off the body for them to fit.

Man I’m so glad I opened one of the no-HS ones first and found out, it would of been terrible the other way around.

Mcpcb on a shelf with a big ol’ hole in it and the shelf rests on a tiny ledge… :~

What are your plans to move forward? Keeping the 5 with the dropin piece of shelf?

Right now my plans are to either return them for a refund and buy from somewhere else (and risk getting ones with XM-L’s therefore costing me nearly $100 more buying emitters) or get a partial refund of ~$100 and either buy HS’s from bucket or have my guy make something better to fit.

If the end result is me having my buddy make something to fit I’ll probably have him go as far as to turn the I.D. threads off the 5 and make 10 press-fit, solid emitter shelves, with a tight press fit it should be better than any stock configuration anyway.

I think if you look closely at your driver, you will find it is the same as mine…( The one in the pic anyway…) :open_mouth:

Ouch, I see what you mean.

Yikes, sounds like a large refund or return is in order—bad drivers AND poor or no heatsinking. That’s a total drag.

fyi, the TMART $39 listed 5 LED Tangpower-TP-Fing-5-CREE-XM-L-U2 also has no pill top. Just got one when they were on special, so between the discount, coupon, and points, I only paid $24. The good thing is it came with XM-L2's and not XML's as listed, it's got good amps and is pretty bright, but drops quick as expected...

IMO, I don’t think you can return it as “incomplete” lights… if anything you can return it as you’re unhappy about the products.
He sold you what seems to be working lights just not as modable as you want it… it is completely different story.
The seller never want to know what will you do to the light… he just knows that his lights is working perfectly just fine, maybe not as bright as you want it to be. (we got spoiled didn’t we? )

I wanted to say pretty much the same….
I paid $40 for basically the same light as he got… ( But I did only order one….)
I can’t complain, the way I see it, it is a working light with xml2 LEDs, not driven very hard…
But that’s just my view….

For interest, can one actually order these ‘heatsinks’ separately anywhere? Apart from a custom made job, as I believe Bucket does…

With 4 x 18650 and 3 x XM-L you would expect it to have some performance. IMHO its deceptive and possibly defective.

If the quality Supfire M6 can be produced & sold for a profit at $40 ($38 on sale) then $40 for a piece of junk with no heatsink is a rip off. They could have made it proper but there is more profit in junk clones of what originally were good lights.

Some of the sales of these junk clones come from reviews of quality SRKs. It looks the same on the outside for exactly that reason. The original sold well… because of its design inside & out. If they wanted to create a different light then don’t clone the outside of a SRK.

Honestly, it hard to fully understand why people defend it. When you’re use to the market being flooded with junk clones of clones we might forget that its done to be deceptive. Some copy a design but without the same name on it. Thats acceptable at least. Clone the name too & can’t tell it apart from the real, quality one. Deception to piggyback on the sales of the real ones. Why should we tolerate it?

It may not be the sellers fault but we can’t directly hold the manufacturer accountable. Only recourse is through the seller.

Wow…the star doesn’t even contact anything…it would be one thing if it sat on a shelf, at least a little heat would wick away…that doesn’t touch anything…all the heat buildup would just keep building up and building up…daggum!

Probably did that to save money, but I can’t help but wonder if they did that on purpose in response to people complaining about SRK’s getting too hot.

While it is nice to get the XM-L2s in these lights, most of them don't have tint and output that are comparable to an XM-L2 U2 1A...they are budget bin emitters. So if you're expecting something as good as the known binned XM-L2s...you'll likely be disappointed.

Every once-in-a-while we play the tint lottery and win...the rest of the time we lose (just as in real life!)

Great news, ten screw in shelves are in their way! According to the pic’s he sent they’re the right pieces, we’ll see when they get here.

Its funny you say that, the seller first tried to tell me the lights without the HS’s were the “new version” who’s bodies no longer get hot.

Another thing he told me was that I didn’t know what I was talking about, that the factory makes millions of lights and what they do must be the best way cause they’re professional flashlight manufacturers and I wasn’t a professional.
