Ok for sale today is my TK61 Super Thrower. It has been de-domed and has had the resistor mods done as well. It’s over 500kcd so this is one of the farthest throwing lights anywhere. It’s simply unreal how far this light throws. It also has a very nice flood and the UI is great.
LOL I enjoy modding them as much as using them and selling them makes it so I can mod more of them. It’s a monkey on my back for sure. I sell more lights so I can buy more lights so I can mod more lights so I can sell more lights so I can buy more lights to mod.
It’s funny, I spend a hundred bucks a month on top of whatever I sell and if I had simply bought lights with that $100 each month I would have a nicer collection. (but not more fun)
It is really crazy how this light throws. I’ll be buying another one as soon as this one sells. I’m surprised it’s still here actually. Nothing else out there throws like this light that I know of.
It’s not the same mod. He is pushing his harder by replacing a FET on it (I think that is what has been reported). I am probably around 1amp under his. Mine is pushed as hard as it can be without changing the FET. Other than that it’s the same MOD (except mine isn’t $250 bucks). Even so it’s probably very close to his in throw. I’m not going to push this driver any harder. It can probably handle being pushed harder but I haven’t tested these drivers enough to know for sure. As it stands it handles the heat very well and get’s great runtime too. I know some guys are trying to get crazy high amps from their’s but I don’t want to sell a light that I’m not sure is going to be reliable over the long run. Plus there is a point of diminished returns on any emitter. You hit a point where a few more amps only gets you a little more throw and then it starts to run into problems with the driver and with thermal sag causing the lumens to drop like a rock after just a few seconds.
Vinh's mods push the envelope, but there is definitely a price to be paid for it in terms of usability. What I mean is, his lights really can't be left running on turbo unattended. Which is fine for most situations, but it can be a bit annoying to have to explain to friends... don't just leave it turned on on high it will burn itself out. Likely a risk with less extreme mods too, but you will have more leeway.
There is a post from a guy over on the other forum... his kid left a modded tk75 running. Well, half an hour later he was the proud owner of a really nice looking paperweight.
Whoa, well I’m definitely not going to let that happen now that I know this. If it’s hot enough to burn the table then I definitely would have turned it down by then since I don’t leave my lights left on and unattended often, and when I do it’s only for a minute.
