Under $10, 1x AA/ AAA/ 10440/ 14500 flashlight reference

Smiling shark flashlights that don’t say the led brand, like most, may not be as bright as one would like. They also tend to have plastic pills, so a good mod would either have a new pill or a thick star in contact with the body. That said, the shape looks like it has good cooling, if the heat can get out to the body.

Help me out here if you can?

Please identify any of these you know has a “mode memory” — remembering the setting last used, so the same setting comes back when it’s turned on again.

(I use strobe mode a lot when walking, in crosswalks, to wake drivers up.
And I turn it on before starting into crosswalks even if I can’t see a car
coming — because I’ve had them come up so fast I didn’t have time to fiddle
with the flashlight — so I put a lot of wear on switches and have begun to
have them fail on my regularly used walking lights)

  1. looks like a nice compact zoomie, do you guys know where I can get one?
Also where to get this one shown by Pregulla

I got mine from Meritline last year. Finish was ok, but it was no better than a typical SK68. I gave it away as a gift.

BIC has them for $.5.5
I got mine from ebay auction for $3.75

“next mode memory”

A capacitor keeps the MCU alive, you turn off the light, hours later you turn it back on, it will start immediately in the “next mode”

You can scrub a pencil tip across the capacitor on many of them making a layer of graphite which allows the capacitor to quickly drain rather than stay charged almost indefinitely, so the MCU resets back to “default” or HI every time you turn it off and leave it off for a few seconds

Start practicing bumping or 1/2 clicking the switch, not a complete click, but partially press the switch changing modes w/o actually clicking the switch

Mode memory, whatever level you were running on when you shut it off, it will come back on at that level next time

I thought the watermark was obvious? Haha.

If this is anything like the fasttech version I just got it AIN’T worth it!

Pics inbound

Yes, in hind sight… :~

I have 2 of them now.
one from DX, which is nice brassy yellow, branded Zhishunjia
one from an ebay vendor, which is piss yellow, branded UltraFire AT-09
I still can’t get the bezel off the DX one, and the threading on the tube and in the head have a lot of play… :frowning:
The other one comes apart easily, threads match better. It’s also about 1.5mm taller than the DX one.
Knurdling is also different.

The UltraFire has a hidden SOS mode…
Press long and it will switch to SOS mode.

Allright folks, this is not as good as i hoped…
Plastic body…
This picture here is not correct, i think…
Zooms from a small spot to a projection of the Osram LED.
I’m modding it as we speak.
It gets a new short head and flood optics.
Because it has one big advantage:
Very light weight!
No shaking mass on the forehead.

Surprise when i got this one in:
Urine-yellow! Not faecal-brown.
It’s bigger than the Olight i3s
It says “CREE” on the head, but it’s not a CREE…
Works fine though!
One mode, plastic lens and reflector.
2 part head, so it’s mod friendlier.

> This is a good one! <
Stainless steel, glass lens, CREE XP-E, one mode, bright.
Only 88mm long and 12mm diameter
DX has them too:

I’m looking for lights that have “mode memory” —
not advancing to the next setting
not returning to the first setting like you get when you put pencil line on a capacitor
—> staying on the same setting when turned off and back on <—-

Number 7 seems to exist in grey, but I haven’t seen it on a reasonable price yet. DX has as usual enormous prices

Having owned the sc01 the double click to strobe works really well, and is very fast to access. It would probably be much easier then cycling to strobe each time, or anything else for that matter.

a couple of those described above as

“$3.42 at ebay A horrible light as is, but a very nice body …”

Fair description. Requires a Li-ion cell, won’t light up with ordinary AA cell.
Battery has to be put in ‘backwards’ (negative toward the LEDs)

Works OK, considering; circle of 5mm blue-white LEDs around a central red laser diode.

Sort of falls apart in the hand when the head is unscrewed, haven’t done anything more til I see how well it annoys the cat in its existing configuration.

I have one.
It’s empty now… :stuck_out_tongue:
It was actually my mom’s.
I was curious about the inside, i ruined the wiring, they did everything with one colour…
So i gave her a slightly modded zoomie
But it did work on AA, and AA only, judging by the 3 parts ‘driver’…
But also a backwards battery…

So who here bought No. 2 on eBay ?
There is only one seller selling these that I could tell and since posting here I could not get them for under $2.00 ! …dam |( …LoL

Hm, the
EDIT: two smallsun 560: 5mm LEDs, red laser
have inside— two red wires — they come from the outside solder terminals of the switch, and go through holes in the the ‘pill’/board. I can try to trace them further if you hope to rewire yours.

And one black wire, that comes from somewhere inside the switch, from a hole in between the two (red wire) solder points) — and that black wire goes to a solder point on the back of the ‘pill’/board

Let’s see, the contact from the ‘pill’/board to the body of the flashlight is made through a springy washer, one of those wavy thin spring metal washers — which is just floating loose, when the head is taken apart.

Well, if you or anyone decides to mod this thing please start a thread. I will eventually if nobody does, but I have no real idea what to do with it now.

But — all in all — the ebay source is cheap enough to be fun (compared to $10-12 elsewhere when I google the name Smallsun and the number).

And hey, these come with a nice two-part keychain lanyard with a good flat-cross-section key ring on one end, a clip-apart thing in the middle and lanyard on the other end.

Ideal for putting everything but your car ignition key on a ring, and then taking it off so you’re not hanging half a pound from the ignition switch, which wears them out, etc.

Any ID for this model? I am kind of into SK68 mod lately. What is the lower seen price?
I found a Aliexpress source, will share the link if it is cheaper.

I like the big tailcap. I having a hard time unscrewing mine. Alu/Stainless steel style bezel looks useful too.

Folks, thanks, everyone reposts the pencil-capacitor trick.
That’s not what I want. I know about that.

I know the capacitor pencil trick.
The capacitor pencil makes it “first mode every time”
That’s nice if it’s what you want.

It’s not what I want. I don’t want “first mode every time”

Mode memory: Remember the last mode — stay at whatever mode was used last time.

Thank you.
