Review of Lightscastle 12x ultrafire 7,200 lumen multiemitter. (WOW)

for sure testing it with light meter and shining the light to the ceiling… it’s brighter than my Niwalker Nova MM15

I note that the 15x version on Amazon is a four 18650 or 26650 battery light. Has any one taken a look at it yet? Must be a pretty long light, getting into the six D cell Mag-Lite category.

We need a group buy on this light, somebody bring it! Double thanks!

I bought that supernight 15LEDs awhile back.. my advise is save your money and just get that grey 12 LEDs ..

Well I finally got the batteries in mine (I bought the 12T6 grey one off of Amazon that DayLighter listed) and this thing is SUPER BRIGHT. Insane! The modes suck horribly but not unfixable.

How long does it take your lights to heat up so hot you cant touch it? The very top of the head heats up within about 15 seconds on high and the tube is scalding within about 2 to 3 minutes on high. I’ve never had a 12 emitter light before, and I understand that they are supposed to get hot but dang!

I cant touch to the top of the head after 45 seconds on the one 18650 modded lol.

i dont care if i blow up some emitters, then ill upgrade to xml2/noctigons

Sounds about as practical as a rubber crutch! Sounds like it needs auto step-down after 60 to 90 seconds and a better UI. I note it is listed as 5 modes. Are the strobe and SOS in the main sequence or hidden in any way and is the medium output level low enough so the light can be used continuously in that mode? Any estimates of Lumens outputs in the three output levels?

have anyone bought this light MoZuKa linked ? any review for it ?

Sorry guys for missing the comments on this thread. I usually get a reminder but I must have missed it.

Again what the light has going for it is simply insane output. It is by far the brightest stock light I have ever had and I have had all kinds of multi-emitter lights. I’m sure it’s basically direct drive on high with fairly low resistance from the FET.

The UI is annoying but for me I don’t care all that much. Really this light is for waling out of my back door and blasting the back acre or two with light. I don’t expect to be walking around with a light that hits this kind of lumens although you could. Just walk with it on low and then zap stuff with the high when you want to. Skip past the blinkies and go back to walking with low.

It’s primarily a cheap solution for a mega lumen light. Short of modding the heck out of the other lights I don’t see anything around that comes close in total lumens. Another thing, the IO driver that is for sale on Lightmalls and LckLed stinks. You can get this kind of lumens with it and better modes but it is constantly burning out if you don’t watch it. It bumps down and freezes up etc.

Those are boost drivers, you'd have to rewire the LEDs to use one - and the biggest one ('9x') will only do a max of 30V output, so it would have to be rewired 6S2P.

A direct drive driver like in this light has 3 cells input, and LEDs therefore must be wired with 4 parallel sets of 3 series LEDs each. A zener diode version of the BLF-20DD is what you would want if replacing the driver.

I’ll keep that in mind I have a couple other lights that are this size just sitting around waiting for a new driver. I know I’m not about to buy any more of the IO 9x drivers after the last one I had. I’m sick and tired of them.

Dang, this thing is bright!

Thanks!

I got the SuperNight here, loaner from DayLighter, sooo, had to measure it up. On 3 fresh KP 26650 4000's (yes - protected), I got:

10.3A at the tail, lumens: 7,752 @start, 7,140 @30 secs

The fit is tight with the KP's in there - can't believe it didn't trip the protection circuit.

With 2 SONY 26650's and 1 KK, I measured 13.6A at the tail -- yikes!

I pulled the light apart, and confirmed the LED's are wired in 4 groups of 3, confirming my suspicions of why the driver is so simple. It's a straight DD, just like our BLF DD drivers, just that you need the zener mod to reduce voltage to the MCU. It's a one piece star that is super thin, I mean almost unmeasurably thin - why they would do this, not sure, unless they had an oopsie in measurements, and had to cut vertical space somewhere. Also, think I confirmed there is a dielectric layer - found a solder ball form a center pad and checked for continuity with the star base.

Thanks for the measurements. I’m glad to know I wasn’t wrong in mine. It really is a beast of a light. It tripped the protection on my KK protected batteries. I don’t know how they are wired but I was assuming the same thing.

Oops, updated post above. Looking inside, the pill area is cavernous, but looks difficult, maybe impossibe to get to without cutting her open. I see threads inside, and maybe a press fit joint, but those inner threads are usually glued. The pill top looks awfully thin. Just a shame - I don't an easy solution to some issues, like upgrading to copper stars with the flat back reflector, etc.

Think what you did was the way to go - experiment with emitters (maybe some XM-L2's), upgrade the grease, upgrade wires and springs. The springs look like copper, and pretty soft. In DayLighter's, the springs are crushed somewhat - hope I didn't do that with the protected KP's, but doubt it. He abuses these things from using them (wut? he actually uses his lights? -- Yes!). Too bad couldn't easily do some copper backing for the pill top - that would help get the heat lower to the fins, but sounds like your improved grease did that as well.

Dang, I got some sic lights sitting around me right now - Super Shocker, TR-9T6 doing 5K lumens, J18's doing 5K - 9K, a TM36 (extreme thrower) does 350 kcd stock, slightly modded MM15 5.2K, TN31 modded out to 500 kcd or so... Not counting under 5K or under 400 kcd lights Smile.

Did you file down those blocking LED alignment pieces?

I’m thinking I did file them but not too far so that I wouldn’t accidentally kill the de-domed emitters.

what about this one 15 x CREE XM-L2 LED it is only 59.96$ shiped

I just got one of these the other day.

It’s a nice enough light but it has some problems. The driver is not all that powerful and there isn’t an easy way to mod the driver for more power. The other problem is that it has a hollow pill. It also has a large aluminum star but it sits on top of a doughnut. There is a big hole right under the three center emitters and only God knows why, there is another gap where the outer emitters sit. It’s a nice big heavy light but why they mounted the star on a doughnut is beyond me.

On the plus side the driver does have memory and not the next mode memory. I just wish it was more powerful.

thank you 18sixfifty

how much current the driver pulls ?

and by large aluminum star you mean its one big star that all led are on it ?

how is the wiring for the emitters ?

I never test the drivers so I don’t know on that one. Also I’m sorry but I didn’t pay attention to how they were wired. Yes one big star that they are all on. I pulled everything and mounted them on sinkpads and filled to doughnut hole and the outside as well.

I did test the lumens and it was around 5,000. Considerably less than the 12x.
