I wonder if the clip comes installed?
Reason is because I may never use the clip so removing it if it comes installed will probably damage / scratch it…
The clip is pre-installed. Removing it might cause only very minor scratches. Removed mine a couple of times and the light is still looking good in my eyes. :)
Bugger, good to hear it can handle the removal not too bad though.
I also took the clip off, and on, and off, and again i.i.r.c. without visible damage.
Btw, i just took mine apart by unscrewing the bezel, and i find a nice glass lens, an aluminium reflector, a g.t.i.d. O-ring, a (looks like) teflon washer, XP-E on tiny (8mm?) alu MPCB, and a tiny brass pill with a tiny driver.
A spring pushes the pill forward.

Some measurements:
- pill diameter 10.8mm
- star diameter 7.8mm
- driver diameter 10.1mm
- emitter wires: short (almost stripped them by lifting the driver 
)
- driver cavity depth 4.0mm (3.0 + 1.0mm PCB)
- pill is solid, quite thin though
