This was bought as a single cell - note the big inductor for buck circuitry. Nice flat pill top, single piece uni-body style and easy access to the pill top. Massively thick pill top I might add...
In this thread: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/24076, post #77 has stock measurements I made, post #86 has the prelim mod #'s and post #117 had final #'s, after the UCLp upgrade. My #'s may be a little high (optimistic?) but I use the very best cell I have, actually the Powerizer may be the best cell in existence - too bad you can't buy them anymore.
Thanks for the great pic Tom. It looks extremely robust. Is the stock mcpcb thicker than a noc or sinkpad? If so, any issues with reflector seating after the swap?
Oh boy - the mod was done a while back, this pic is from back then. I'm thinking it worked ok - using a lower profile centering piece, and possibly thicker MCPCB, but I believe these bigger MCPCB's are already fairly thick, in the 1.5mm range, close to a Noctigon or SinkPAD. For some stupid reason, I don't have many pics from the mod and the light is sold off to a relative, hunting/fishing activity. I can find out a little more from the stock lights I have.
Stock Yezl Y3 white wall beamshot here in the M12 review in the OP: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/27258. Don't think you can tell much, but, it's a wall beamshot...
I saw the “Bang good” header so I went and signed up.
Great!
I was sent a 5% off Coupon with the code #5b3733.
I ordered a item for $26.99. I entered the code and the pop-up said “Not Valid” and I ordered the item because my wife of 49 + years wanted it.
So, what is the deal?
My order number is #2612912, I paid with Pay Pal.
What to do?
I’ve ordered Version C of the group buy at cnqualitygoods.com.
The original YEZL Y3 product page has XM-L2 U2 in the title line but XML-2 T6 for the LED description. Both are XML2 but different bins.
I ordered anyway and expect it to work out.
Oh - on the CNQ product page? It's always been XM-L2 as far as I know, and pretty sure it's an XM-L2 T6 1A. RIC's website is crazy, whacky, frought with errors all over the place. I just went through some things, and boy, so many blank pics, wrong descriptions, conflicting info -- it's a mess. Thinking of ordering parts but worried I'll get the things I order...
I'm confident we are good with the group buy, just that the product listing has some mistakes and lots of missing details.
Always wanted a Y3, for the price I’ll probably pick up a v3, I like the look of better and plan to run them single cell but the price for the expensions is so good I could have them if I need them in the future for this or other Y3’s (or for HD2010’s which I recently read a thread claiming they work on).
I also read this but cannot confirm whether the threads are correct or just lose enough they screw together. The other thing to wonder if the tubes are the correct threads is the length correct to accommodate two batteries with the tailcap screwed on. I'm like the rest of you here that doesn't have a light yet.
I can’t get the pictures to work but I can assure you the threads are identical. Not just ‘close-enough’. Length wise I’ll go measure now… Just a minute
Edit: HD2010 ‘main’ tube is ~7mm longer than the y3’s. I was successful though previously making series contact with two 18650s inside the HD2010 with a magnet or two. I figure it’s a lot easier though to lengthen a battery or spring/contact than to machine a body tube. Anyhow, this deliberate attempt yielded no contact with bare cells in the few configurations I tried.
I got out of bed to take the measurements, but now it’s time for me to sleep… more tomorrow.
