This month's new toys

Each one of these came from a different vendor. Most of them arrived quickly.

From DX - The Accursed LED Of Blueness - this one is about as white as I am after a bath in sump oil. From Dinodirect the Romisen RC-C6, from KD the Hugsby P32, from Lightake the Trustfire Z1, and from QualityFlashlinghts the Thrunite TiKey. All of these except the Accursed LED Of Blueness will get reviewed in due course.

Here's an attempt to show what I mean. And the TiKey is pretty blue. OK red and black leather is not the best possible background for this but the recommendation is avoid this one. Fortunately it didn't cost a lot - but it isn't worth the $4.15 I paid for it. Some kid will be getting it.

Let's try for a better beamshot. Remember the paper is a very bright white and the optical brighteners are fluorescing like crazy under the blue light.

Wait! There's more! It zooms. So instead of a big dim spot of blueness you can have a smaller dim blue spot of hideousness.

Hi Don, I am interesting into buying the flood to throw (4,15USD)

I have questions:

1) The light produced is white or blue?

2) I can not appreciate the lenght and witdh. It is similar to black cat or bigger?

3) Runtime using a AAA? it has an internal plastic spacer or something similar?

4) Clickie switch? appears good?

5) What kind of led? typical china 5mm LED?

Thanks Don

Wow that Z1 looks really small.

It is more like a blue LED than a white one. Really, I'd avoid this one. Unless you have some very specialised use it is a waste of money.

Length closed - wide focus is 87mm. At tightest focus it is about 95mm

Diameter is 15mm

Runtime - no idea but it pulls a surprisingly large 400mA from an NiMH AAA. I was expecting 90-100mA. Two hours on an NiMH for less than 20 lumens is pathetic. The lightbox says 66 lux at wide or 33 lux at tight. Overestimate of lumens is 14 lumens. I can get 11 lumens from a Fenix E01 for 10 hours. And it is way less blue. There is an internal plastic spacer which is a very tight fit on the NiMH in it. As in I may have to cut it off to get the cell out.

Clickie switch which doubles as the attachment point for the split ring. It is awkward to use and if other stuff is attached to the carabiner which may well be the best bit of it, it is going to get turned on in your pocket.

It doesn't look like any LED I've seen before but that may be the plastic lens on the front.

Seriously, the dollar eBay specials are better. If i can post it to you for less than $4.15 I'm quite happy to send it to you for the cost of the postage. PM me your address and I can post it tomorrow. It is very light so should be cheap to post.

It is. It is about 2.5" (Measured as 67mm) long.

I like the looks of the Hugsby P32 but I really, really like the Trustfire Z1.

About the removable pocket clip on the Hugsby P32, does anyone sell just the clip? I could use a bunch of them on my dollar lights as a clip and as an 'anti-roll of the desk device'.

Or "anti-skid" as DinoDirect calls it. ;)

It is - here it is in my hand - and I don't have big hands. Or clean fingernails either.

Is it good for a keychain, or is it still too big? I ordered an ITP A3 from goinggear. Probably going to receive it in the next couple of days. How do you think it would compare to the ITP A3?

I think that for a keychain the ITP would be better. It is not as much the length or diameter of the Trustfire, but the way the "head" sticks out the side. I think it could easily be damaged on a keychain.

Yes, I also ordered the A3 (it will arrive in 1 or 2 weeks) and the A3 is better for keychain. The head of the Z1 will give you problems in your pocket

Now today there is a hugsby P32 14500 version at KD.

14500? sure?

http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=10741

With the KD random spec generator it is hard to say - it still says Input voltage 1.2-1.5V

Oh yes! is true, random spec generator.

So forget about 14500

My P31 from DX said 0.9-4.2V on the white box that it came in.

In general I'd believe the label on the box more than a dealer's website. But I'd still have a driver and LED ready to swap in just in case.

that's amazing, i like the 1st one mostTongue out

Anyone dared try their P31 with a 14500 battery?
