This is a comparison photo with CNQG BLF edition S1 NW light in the middle
Received one yesterday. I’d ordered one of each and received the CW so far. About 3 weeks for the first one to arrive. Cute little guy.
Been EDC'ing mine since I got it. Really like it. The button isn't hard to press on mine. I would like to figure out how to open up the switch for future maintenance purposes. Looks like it may be threaded into the tail cap but don't want to take pliers to it yet.
Still waiting for my other 5 would show up. 2 were shipped at the same time as the one I received.
Anyone resistormodded one?
Just opened it up(needed to center the led anyway) and did some investigations inside. There is a sensing resistor and it is despite it looked like a r50 a r500 0603, I replaced it with a R300 0805 and there is not much space. I tested the driver at 1.2V and it had 0.64A stock but it is hard to reduce the resistor because there is somewhere a fast jump or so to 2A, I now got around 1.3A@1.2V.
There is no thermal paste under the star and I guess the spring under the pill, the driver spring and switch spring aren’t made for high current so I wouldn’t recommend doing it…
I will play a bit with it when it gets dark.
The dome of the LEDs is also a bit abused, I guess because of the bad centering it had. Maybe I replace it with another led later.

Nice start on the beginning of your mod process on this light Werner. I wouldn't mind upping the current on mine a wee bit. Thanks for the great info.
Well, I just got my Efest 10440’s yesterday and it looks like it makes the light about twice as bright. It makes the already nice beam even better because the extra brightness brings out more fullness in the beam as well as a smoother spot to spill transition. As Gj pointed out, the light does get hot fairly quickly. If I were to wish for a couple of things I would like the light to have it would be this. Multiple modes so you could still have the brightness of lithium on tap, but still have the lower modes for cooler extended runtimes. Thicker tailcap threads, it’s too thin, you could easily cross thread the cap if your not careful. A pill that is connected to the body to sink the heat better. A stronger clip would be nice too. I know you can’t ask for the world for a $6.00 light, but it would be nice.
Does it get hot quick with Eneloop battery? My CQG AAA, its sibling, starts gets hot after around 3-5 mins of use but still tolerable to hold.
Ok mine finally got here ..it took a fairly long time though .like 30 days .
i like the lights but the neutrals are definately not neutral they are warmer than anything I own .
the tint has to be in the low 2000k range lower than a 7A warm white .
for the money you can't complain ,,,and at that price you can't be bothered to swap emitters either unless you seriously love the light .
shrug ... probably should have bought at least one cw .

Received mine today and about half an hour later my AAA eneloops arrived, perfect timing 
. I’m surprised by how flawless the finish is on these, great quality for such a low price. The NW is VERY warm, lucky I got a CW as well.
Aaaand mine isn’t arrived yet.

Same here. I placed my order for one of each. I decided about 30 minutes later to order another one. I received the second order a week or so ago but the first order still shows origin post preparing shipment.
I will have PIC based linear (Li-ion only) direct replacement drivers available for them soon, flashable and current selectable (up to 4A) via resistor swapping.
OSHPark drivers with a 6-pin 10F322 (there is also the possibility of an attiny10 being a direct swap for AVR folks).
Because of the issues Werner mentions (tail spring and tiny pill) and the thin SS body I highly recommend not exceeding 1A, the drivers I build for them will be set to 225-500mA (but again can do up to 4A, current is based on a 1206 Sense resistor).

GearBest I wish you would consider making the price less than $7 shipped. I would get a few more but at $7.27 I will just buy the original S1 from CNQG.

Finally got mine. 11 business days.
I’m only running alkalines in it at the moment. I got the CW and I can say it is more of a pure white than “cool white.” I don’t know much about tints, but it is about as pure of a white light as I can imagine. (Like the color of a white sheet of paper)
I really like the little light. Looks pretty good in my work shirt’s pen holder pocket… and the finish is really nice as well.
