17mm 12x7135 drivers with custom firmware (Group Buy Interest thread)

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for us. Thanks again.

I'll be interested in this one to supply the Euro zone modders too.

If there is any interest in the BLF17DD that I started offering I'll pick up 50 of these. If not then... Substantially less :-(

But I do hope they can be ready made to have off time memory. I am trying to figure out how to make a "scroll one mode back" for clickie switches like Werners UI for momentary switches.... So that'd be cool if the off time memory hardware was there already :-)

I wanted to see how 12x 7135’s would fit. The spring pad I cam up with is nearly the right diameter. 7.5mm is what I got away with in this arrangement. I also got 5x 7135 on the opposite side with the MP and 4 discrete comps. No stars, but that can be solved at the MP. After all, stars are just shorted outputs. Anyone see a problem putting the 7135’s to the edge to maximize the spring OD at the base? This is one thing the 105C limits… spring deflection.

What a great rendering! Thank you for taking the time to model this concept.

Just another update. They have agreed to do more than one set of modes. So one is going to be THE’s firmware and another set of mode selections my flashpilot.

Great! Best of both worlds!

Did you ask about adding a 1uF capacitor for supporting off-time memory?

Edit: Please don't get me wrong. I'm not forcing or pushing anyone to select TheStar. If most people want a simpler/better/less hated FW, I'm totally ok going with a single batch with that FW. [I don't have any problem flashing my own drivers with TheStar]

I did that just a few minutes ago and I’ll post here when they get back to me.

Retaining rings won’t work. Not too common on 17mm stuff though. I certainly can’t think of an example. You’ll almost certainly have to route traces under the large GND pad on the 7135’s if you keep the top as crowded as you mentioned. Thanks 18sixfifty! That is great news for everyone. This should make a wide range of people very happy and stimulate sales. Thank you for hanging in there and not giving up. Huge kudos go to you sir! The 1uF capacitor would make it all the more appealing.

Nice…the only problem…the 7135’s on the top need a clearance space, otherwise they sometimes hit the inner lip of the pill and the driver won’t seat properly

On the bottom I think it needs a ground ring

Very cool looking render!

wight did an AWESOME 22mm with 6 on top and bottom but there is ALOT more acreage on the driver when you from 17mm to 22mm

Still blown away by that render…awesome!!!

He’s got a GND ring, it’s under the (GND) tabs. Is there some need for unpopulated space at the edge of the board on the bottom? I’m sure we need unpopulated area around the edge on the top.

FWIW the 22mm board has 8/8, not 6/6. Space dries up fast as you add components ;-). IIRC 6/6 can be done on 20mm, didn’t someone do that?

Off time memory is supported!

Just how many cases of premium beer did you send these folks to make them like you so much?

Cheers!

LOL

I’m guessing they hope to sell us a bunch of these and if they do it right they will be correct. I can see me going back to them over and over if they are always this easy to deal with. If they are just blowing smoke up my backside then they won’t even get this order. Nice that they offered a sample right away though. That tells me they at least have confidence that they can get it done correctly.

I got all the traces routed on the primary side along with leaving the 1/2mm clearance ring on the outer edge for the pill shoulder.
A conventional 5x 7135 is possible with no signal vias going through the board… only the ground ring and the positive spring pad.
It is surprising just how much room there is for routing 5x 7135’s. This would be the old AK-47A on ’roids.
To make it two sided, the 7x 7135’s are fed with strategic vias back to the primary side.

I have no intention to compete with 18650 here. I just wanted to have a quick look. And yes, it is doable.
I have my own projects and certainly have a different requirement for the modes. Stacking 7135’s on top of each other is much easier for a 1-4 off.

Doing that on a 15mm board was difficult…well…5 total chips (not 5 on each side)

- TheStar FW or simpler Qlite FW (2 choices)

- Off-time memory

Thank you very much 18sixfifty! How can I not ordering a few (plenty…)!

You guys are awesome.

Off-time memory sounds great! I need to update TheStar to support it well..

wight has now been testing the TheStar Off-time v0.1 (which I coded kind of blindfolded, as I don't have any 1uF caps for testing at the moment)

The challenges in porting TheStar to off-time are the lack of memory and especially stars.. We can't have all the options we have in the on-time version. :(

At the moment I'm planning to have mode order and tacticool switches => Options are L->H (with off-time memory), H->L (with off-time memory), Tacticool (no memory) & Single mode (no memory). Is this ok for everyone, or would it be better to provide only mode order and memory switches? => Options would be L->H (with off-time memory), H->L (with off-time memory), L->H (with off-time NO memory) & H->L (with off-time NO memory)

Any comments / opinions?

I prefer to have the ability to setup offtime with no memory.

Will the Tacticool be strobe first then H > L?
