This uses one of those “strawhat” LEDs with a small driver/contact board (joule thief maybe?) that go into one of those plastic sleeve/pills.
I can get the driver and LED board out from the battery end of the head, but can’t figure out how to get the reflector out. I’m pretty sure that there isn’t a bezel ring, so it almost seems like they put the reflector (which is wider than the battery-end opening of the head) into the head from the front, and then either press fit or glued the (plastic, I think) lens in from the front.
Does that make sense? Has anyone had this or similar light and know how to get the lens and reflector out?
Its much the same setup as the 3W police lights, MXDL AA Lights, mini C8, etc that uses a 5mm Strawhat LED (usually a clone/no-brand name of the old Luxeon Strawhat wide-angle emitter) with a boost Driver. ( sometimes a simple Joule thief design)
If the driver has a ferrite-coil with the 3 or 6 pin IC its the better one, ( the ones with the Transistor and resistor joule thief are not as good less efficient.)
I finally got around to trying to get the lens and reflector out. They wouldn’t come out when pushing from the back, so I tried a 1/2” copper tube in from the battery end and hit that with a hammer. The lens came out, but I also damaged the reflector :(…
I haven’t tried to see if the lens will pop back in again yet, but is there any less destructive way of getting the lens/reflector out?
That light has a cool look to it. It would be cool if there is a readily available replacement reflector. Do you have an idea what the depth and width of the reflector is?
