4.3v Hobby Charger Suggestion?

icharger does up to 4.30V in the general settings for LiPo End Voltage but not higher than that and it has nothing to do with calibration. you could download new firmware for higher LiPo End Voltages, i think Hillrc is working on it.

The Turnigy chargers do have a 'calibration' function, but it only goes +/-0.03v (0.06v total). Not enough adjustment range. If they would go +/-0.10v you could use the 4.20v LiPo setting for the 4.3v cells and the 4.10v LiIo setting for normal 4.2v cells, but it won't go that far. :(

Argh… yeah the turnigy isn’t enough

Turnigy Reaktor.
Can adjust voltage up to 4,3V and is cheaper than icharger 206 but it is the same charger.

You could try installing Cheali open source firmware on an Accucell 6.

I’d really spend the extra and get a Reaktor, You might find yourself wanting the extra features later on. But if you already have a charger you could try making a 4.3v top up charger like some did here.

The only problem is that the Turnigy Reaktor is out of stock for a long time now…

Yeah it had some stock in the Australia warehouse, but even thats gone now… :_(

I don’t understand why they don’t get more stock… Their initial stocks were gone in less than a week. They are loosing a lot of sales.

I’m in the market for a hobby charger too. Will the Turnigy Reaktor charge a 12v lead acid battery?

Of course.
It will charge basically anything: Pb, NiCd, NiMH, Lithium (all chemistries up to 4.3V, not 4.35V, but that’s close enough for me).
Heck, it could even charge your 12V batteries at 20A. Much higher than any lead acid battery charger you could get in an auto shop for this price!
There are two downsides to this charger:
1- You need to get your own power supply to power it. You can buy one but a 300W capable PSU is at least 50 bucks. Or you can salvage an old computer PSU for that. Just keep in mind that you need 18V input to get the full 300W output. If input is 12V you’ll get about 220W output.
2- No stock!

If you don’t need 300W power and that charging at 4.2V is enough (no 4.3V batteries), then the Accucel 6 is also an excellent choice for a third of the price of the Reaktor. I have it and I’m very happy with it. I’ll buy the Reaktor for:
1- PC data logging
2- 300W
3- regenerative discharge

hobby king has a new range of chargers that will do 4.35v called the neutron

any of the Icharger duo’s will do 4.35v as well

These new chargers are not good value IMO. The reaktor can charge at 4.3V which is close enough to 4.35V.

I bought Reaktor because it is icharger 206b clone. Software is exactly the same, so in future all updates will match for reaktor too.

I hope it will! But I’m sure that the company that produces the Icharger will to something do prevent knokoffs to get the updates for free…

There is a new charger out on hobbyking for the new 4.3V lipo check this out.
I would recommend on buying a higher power version because of the discharge function. The charging power is more than enough even on the small models but discharge is limited to 1A max.

I’m actually thinking of buying a DC electronic load. It would probably be more accurate and able to discharge at a higher current. Unfortunately I haven’t found a cheap enough one yet. I’m also thinking I making one by myself… Just need to it! :slight_smile:
