9v Charger Suggestion

I’m looking for a good simple charger for 9v NiMH batteries (and also suggestions on a decent 9v NiMH LSD battery).
I’m in the EU so looking for stores and products that can be delivered here.

I have plenty of AA/AAA chargers so I don’t have specific interest in having AA/AAA capability.
ideally i just need a 9v one that will charge and terminate correctly. I will need just 2 or maybe 3 batteries so i don’t really mind if it only holds one battery - as long as it’s good.

thank you for the suggestion -but i’d really prefer to stick to NiMH, not sure of discharge rates on Li batteries. I’m also not sure if i could safely buy them online (due to the Li chemistry).

I’m also interested in this. I have a few smoke detectors that chew through 9V batteries and ofc my multimeters.

I have a bunch of 9v Accupower cells I found in the recycling bin but no way to charge them, I may grab one of those Shoshone chargers to start using them.

No way you should put regular NiMh in a smoke detector. They just don’t stay charged well enough. Minimally they’ll drive you crazy running out of juice at night and beeping. At worst they’ll go dead when you are away and then not be working when you need them.

I have never seen a review of 9v NiMh LSD cells. Might work but I’d be suspicious of them until PROVEN.

I am experimenting with a decent quality but used, Li-on 9v in a smoke detector - 1 only of about 5 in the house, so I’m not convinced yet it’s a good solution. It seems to be OK for ~ 6+ months. I’ve had alkaline go 2+ years, though most folks recommend an annual change for safety reasons.

When you think of the cost vs hassle vs benefit ratio for a smoke alarm then it’s hard to beat alkaline.

It depends, how much do you pay for your 9V alkaline batteries?

You could make a battery pack up of 6 eneloops, if you can get them cheap enough? Or maybe use a pair of protected 4.35V phone/RC cells in series, if you want it to fit in a PP3 cavity.

My Honeywell carbon monoxide detector uses a lithium cell, probably primary (I haven’t opened it yet). It is meant to last seven years or so. I have not looked into 9V lithium primaries…

a pair of suitably sized li-po packs would be the best diy solution… i still don’t understand how the 9v lithium cells are balanced during charging

You mean like the Energizer L91/92 AA/AAA primaries but in 9v? I use them exclusively in my better DMM’s (to much $$ for my numerous cheap DMM’s) and they seem to last forever, I’ve never had to replace one yet and I use my DMM a lot, as in 6+ hours a day for 6+ months now, running duracell alkalines before I would get 3-5 months on a cell so already nearly double that and the low batt indicator hasn’t blinked once yet.

I have a bunch of 9v NiMH’s that I would use in my DMM’s if the Li primaries didn’t work as well as they do but it’s not worth it to buy a charger. Some day I’ll get a hobby charger and start using them but no reason to now, the energizer’s last so long I wouldn’t be saving any money but buying a dedicated 9v charger now.

I use the Powerex 9v stealth charger which specializes in charging 9v batteries. It even comes with a car adapter.
