Advice for COB and 3x xm-l2 drivers

An actual part number would be a great help.

Both those drivers you linked to are the same part, they have a max output of around 30 volts, not enough to fully drive the 32-36v arrays. And, those drivers are horribly unreliable when run at their max voltage for more than a few minutes at a time.

OK, those '9x' boost drivers, at their max of 30v, will put around 650-700mA through a C9000. That current will only give you around 2700 lumens. And it will run for about 5-8 minutes before the driver burns up.

This driver will do 3A @ 48v (it will only put out the voltage needed to reach the set current limit). You will need to study the 'tech' page for the HBFlex to make sure you understand what's required to make it work.

Those 5x/7x/9x boost drivers should be pulled from the market, they are not reliable.

Uh, no. Not boost drivers. You'd end up with the first driver powering the second one (and likely neither of them surviving).

That's the same driver again. Different sellers may have them customized with slightly different firmware (different modes, levels, etc.) but that doesn't change the hardware.

Even the $40 HBFlex will struggle to hit 100W output, and to get close to that you'll need to use the highest possible input voltage, otherwise the input current goes above what the driver can tolerate. That makes it difficult to fit into something that resembles a flashlight (though, you haven't mentioned what you want to use it for yet).

There are non-flashlight drivers easily able to run it, from either DC (boost drivers) or AC powered.

I am planning a 100w videolight, I am also looking for a good way of driving three xml,s slightly overdriven to aroung 45-50w. And really 120degree is a bit too wide so it would be great to narrow the beam down to aboute 60-80degrees, maby by using a fresnell? body will be manufactured in my lathe, so actually size does not matter….

So fixed lighting? AC power available, or DC?

The Chinese square LED arrays have glass aspheric lenses & brackets that fit, don't know for sure about the Bridgelux but I'm sure there's something for them.

Oh no there are only DC available… it should be portable…

When I say 'fixed lighting' I mean that it will remain in a fixed location in space while it's in use, not that it will be anchored to the bedrock. So, stationary, on a stand? Or mounted to a camera? Handheld with someone walking around with it?

oh sorry, me stupid :slight_smile: it is both mounted on camera and operated by light people… it is supposed to be used for uw videography…

for the 3x xm-l i am planning on using this driver to ramp it up a bit, cooling is done by heatsinking led and driver to aluminium housing, when operated underwater it should be cool enough (maby) lck-led.com - Informationen zum Thema lck led.

This is pretty much the same i think, is this a good idea to drive three xm-l’s in series with, are there any experiences with it and how many amps it is over each led with three xm-l , i have already tried to search but could not find anything, i am sorry if i missed it
