Ok, guys and gals. I received this light a little over a week ago from Acebeam as part of their global testing campaign. They wanted a “professional video review” so I tried to make one. Inside the video you’ll see plenty of outdoor night shots, real video runtime tests, bad jokes, and nice crisp, 1080p video. I was told my audio was a bit low last time, so I tried to bump it up this time. Tell me what you think. Thanks for watching everyone and subscribe to my youtube channel for more videos like this.
While all my beamshots are in the video, I’ll post a few stills I took of this awesome light here. Oh and by the way, no mis-matched anodization was to be found on my sample. Oh and yes, the Acebeam Logo is supposed to look like that… it’s on the case that way too- so it’s not flaky etching. And it’s a fairly nice NW tint, which you can kind of see in the Moonlight mode comparison late in the video. And I could not detect any visible PWM on any mode by using the running water/fan blade trick.
Hi mHanlen . May I ask… Your photo shows that the K40M has what appears to be a light orange-peel reflector.
Is this so? I ask because mine has a smooth reflector. Btw, mine was ordered when it was still “Supbeam”. Just wondering if they (Acebeam) have made the change.
I umm didn’t want to damage the sidewalk this time…. Yeah….
I had to look at a few other lights, but you’re right. You might not notice it depending on the angle, but my shots clearly show it. It’s way more subtle than a typical orange peel.
No fan. It got hot, uncomfortably hot- but not to the point you couldn’t hold it. That Sky Ray King on the other hand will make you play hot potato if you leave it on high. I found this out the other day when a co worker tried to pick it up and wound up throwing it across the room.
Later today I’ll upload a slightly less sped up version of the video runtime tests that lasts a little over a minute The light does fluctuate in brightness- which you can see if you look carefully at the video here. But it seems to go down slightly and then get brighter again. I’m inclined to believe it’s temperature controlled. I’ll post this video here for all curious parties later.
Ok here’s level 6 only sped up 3000x. I’ll throw up level 5 a little bit later. It’s suuuuuper boring, but you can see where it steps down a little and gets brighter. Don’t fall asleep!
Hi. Thanks for the reply.
I reason I asked is that I wrote to Supbeam (Acebeam) soon after I received my K40M .
Told them that it’s a really good flashlight, my only suggestion being that it could benefit from using a (very) light orange-peel reflector .
It is generally thought that the MT-G2 emitter is more suited to that, and I felt the K40M could stand to lose a tiny bit of throw to gain a slightly smoother beam pattern.
I measured mine at 10m to be about 66kCd - which is about right according to the specs. In any case I bought mine for the flood mainly, as I already have the de-domed K40.
Well it worked, it’s pretty artifact free unless it’s on super low, and you can see a honeycomb or two from the emitter. It’s a nice smooth pattern. I happen to like orange peel reflectors, and while I like a good thrower, I don’t see how I’d really need any more than this.
