Ah yeah, no free shipping, and they probably charge a couple bucks for using paypal too. You have to put it in the cart and do a “pre order” to see how much, they say “we will email it to you”. Even if its “a lot” for Chinese places, it wont be near the $50 difference in price I’m sure.

SZ wholesale has come through on a lot of my deals in the past. They have consistently had better price and when I have bough something from them they have packed it up really nice and safe and shipped it to me right fast. They get my thumbs up.

I have to say the finish, as well as the machining quality, is unlike anything I've ever seen from Trustfire. It actually looks like something Armytek could have produced. With luck a simple resistor mod can make it's performance as beastly as it's looks. Can't wait to see it in person. :bigsmile:

Cells and LED's - same as a J18. A J18 with the IOS driver and you got 5,000 - 5,500 lumens. So, for the extra cost of this light, you are getting maybe a preferred UI, form factor, host quality? Dunno, too many maybe's - if there was something more to it (U2's at least) ...

This is supposedly infinitely variable, so not sure how a driver change will work with the current switch if it really is infinitely variable.

Exactly. I hope that a resistor mod is easy enough on it. I’d be very happy with 2A/LED. More would be icing on the cake.

Did you buy it on that Shenzen site? If so, what was shipping like and total cost?

Yeah, I probably wouldn’t get it unless I didnt have a J18 and this one could be modded the same way. Still a nice light though. I really have my eye on the J20…

Do you think your mod would work well on the x100? With the nicer throw that one could really be worth it.

Did they have the current before? It's listed as 10,000 mA.

Upgrading to XM-L2 U2 can add 700 lumens. Worth it.

2A per XM-L2 U2 would be much better.

Not familiar with the X100, but others here are. DayLighter mentioned the J18 died after 15 mins of use with the IOS driver.. I think he was using KK's in it and am thinking may have been too much for the driver, but not sure.

After using infinite variable UI of other Trustfire flashlights, I don’t think it is user friendly because it is a bit slow and need to judge brightness with attention.
Trustfire should develop another UI for their flashlights.

To me, their better UI was the old one. Not this infinite variable UI that sound better, but actually not so practical or should say slow. Predefined level is faster and cover most of the usecases. For example, a moon light mode of 1 lumens, low mode of 30 lumens, medium mode of 200 lumens, etc. But this infinite variable mode would be good new feature as add on, not totally replacing predefined level.

When I find that it is too bright, then I have to hold on the button to wait for the light to reduce brightness ramping up or down. That is what I don’t like as that is not comfortable to my eyes. When I find that it is too dim, I will need to wait for the light to ramp up or down either though not so uncomfortable to my eyes. I prefer there is quick way to go to predefined level.

Best UI is Zebralight UI that one short click go to high, one long click go to low.

Well I went ahead and ordered one. Based on earlier posts I thought that JohnnyMac was going to do a review of this but it apparently never appeared other than in a greatly abbreviated form on the FastTech web site.

One thing I cannot figure is Chilumens. On this light’s listing FastTech lists 3800 Lumens and per a review JohnnyMac posted on the Fasttech web site actual measured output is 3578 OTF Lumens. Darned near dead-on by Chilumens standards. That is one of the things that gets to me. This light is almost dead-on while another light FROM THE SAME MANUFACTURER claims far greater output than is actually achieved. WTF??? There appears to be no logic to the situation unless this particular light is aimed primarily towards some military use where they demand accurate specifications be given.

To me it is about the closest thing in a current technology high output LED light to the old claimed multi million candlepower lanterns powered by SLA batteries or the old 6V Lantern battery lights. Some of those dinosaurs still available on Amazon the last I looked. Those SLA batteries had too short lives even if babied and frequently died with the lights still on the shelf before being sold. IIRC the cheap Stanley HID light had that problem as reported on CPF by a lot of members.

With a set of good 26650 batteries this light should have good output times as they are now available with 5000+ mAh capacity per cell.

I just got my modified TR-S700 back from RMM at Mountain Electronics. It has had warmer XM-L2 LEDs installed on Noctigons, the current sense resistors bypassed and heavier gauge wiring installed throughout. I like the result so far. Other than the bridged sense resistors the driver is stock due to nothing else being compatible with the continuously variable switch assembly. Per Richard it should be capable of continuous operation at maximum output under most conditions, a rarity in this output range. Of course with batteries this beast weighs 3.4 pounds almost exactly per my digital kitchen scale so lots of mass for heat absorption and dissipation.

Careful inspection of the LEDs while operating the switch reveals that the output current to the LEDs is stepped. You can see that the LEDs brighten in steps rather than brightening in a linear analog way as the slider switch is operated.
