So 5.5a it is! I’ll put in 2 R090 and do a quick shot on high to see what it’s like. Might just go with one R090 in the end, but if you don’t see the limits you’ll never know the safe ground to play around. Those diodes can take a bit more than rated thinking. The fet I can always custom sink by running some copper sheet to the side of the pill. I’ve had to cool small fets before from bad design on a video card and it worked perfect. But that was with active cooling. That’s the thing with lights is your only good for so long at the high end and it’s lights out. It might be worth 5.5a though as your not going to be abusing that hopefully. I might make mine 5.5 and my brother in laws 2.75 with one resistor. Then I can say mines bigger than yours, but I’ll know it’s not going to last lol keep it on med most of the time.
I got those resistors off mouser, but they are 1206. The 5k pack from China I guess can store that away. That could have been a battery
Meh, it’s not a bad thing to have a ton of resistors :-).
Do we have “at the emitter” measurements for this light? The stock resistors should give 3A at the emitter already.
Just know that if you are “pushing” this board enough to make the efficiency drop significantly you are losing a ton of runtime and being hard on the driver at the same time.
My tracking number is still not working, I asked Ric and he said it wasnt one of the returned ones and said he was going to ask the shipper for help tracking it but I havent heard back yet.
I received mine yesterday and it did have two postage's on it. One from when it got sent out and returned and the second one for the second time it got sent.
I just was outside and shined along my way and I like this light a lot. Thanks for the Group buy. The lens is really nice, thanks ric for comin up with that. I would order another lens just for spare if someone could tell me how to select tracked shipping in the shop…
Just for reference I also can influence the output by the used batteries. I tested Ncrb, 26650, lg 4.35V cells and each gave 5% more output.
So the regulating seems to be a bit voltage depending. A quick measurement gave around 800lm and 48kcd so that seems in the range others have mentioned.
The driver is really smart, works with one to 3 batteries and has undervoltage protection for each amount of cells. I am impressed.
Have I understand it correct that a resistor mod don’t works for one cell use?
And another question: what is that?
Or better why was this in my envelope? Have I missed something.
It looks like you need to get out the white king and turn your light naked. I had the same mark on one tailcap but thats all I could see without putting them under the microscope. Mine are definitely not as bright as my HD2010 running at 5 amps. I have a large star coming for the MTG-2 so will wait for it to come in before I mod it. Now to go and find Tom E thread on how to strip these.
I could not find greased lightning here in Australia so went looking for an alternative. White King had the same active ingredient. Its a clothes bleach. I dont know how it compares to anything else but has worked on everything I've used it on for de-anodising.
On a separate note did the driver pull out straight past the switch boot? Mine seems to be stuck there for some reason and dont want to break anything which l am quite adept at.
