Review: AceBeam K40M MT-G2/3*18650 Flashlight

Whaddya mean? I found four negatives and honestly, aside form them I really can’t find any. This is a great light!

Thanks for the beautiful pics & reviews!

Nice to see it compared to the TN35, thanks. I feel like I’m the only one that is bothered by them incorrectly spelling ‘Standby’ with space…

Nice Review!

Very nice review JM.

The K40M is well driven and judging form the output compared to other known lights I would say the MT-G2 is driven at around 6A.

I posted these numbers in another thread, but for everyone wondering, here is what I measured at the emitter on a stock K40M:

4,86Amp @ startup

4,77 10 sec

4,71 30 sec

4,66 1 min

4,18 1 min 10 sec

4,16 2 min

4,14 2 min 30 sec

4,12 3 min 30 sec

4,11 4 min 30 sec

4,10 5 min

Considering the emitter current, I would say output is very very good thanks to the good reflector, lens and high bin emitter.

On my light it seemed like they had some sort of blue looking loctite on the screws as well. (On my K50M battery carrier screws there were no loctite, just the epoxy) Just a warning that it may be even more of a PITA to get them out compared to what some might think.

Thanks for a great review of a great light JohnnyMac !

Top notch review mate, great work.

Time to pull the trigger

Nice review. Love the pics
Cheers…

Thanks JM for the review and nice picture.

In fact when I clicked into this thread I wish I could read more cons of this light so that I wouldn’t be tempted to buy it…

But, damn…

Great review and thank you JohnnyMac.

Very nice review, JM. Interesting that ChibiM noted more cons. I wonder if the lights are not identical, or if it’s just a matter of different expectations or taste?

Do you owners think the control ring can be operated while wearing gloves?

I received a K40M in a BLF group buy a few weeks back. When I received the light I turned it on and pointed it at the wall about 10 feet away. That’s when I noticed a small hot spot within the usual hot spot. I haven’t had a chance to check it out to see if it’s a focus issue or an artifact from the MT-G2 emitter. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Just curious. Anyways, there is a fellow over on the other forum that has tail caps with cut outs for the thumb. It’s anodization matches well the factory finish and it’s machining is top notch.

Based on the cons and reviews. Looks like exactly the same light, just different subjective thoughts on what is considered cons it seems. Which is normal. I always read the pros/cons in reviews and evaluate myself if they are cons or pros to me. We all have different taste and preferences.

Yes, I think the control ring can be operated while wearing gloves. But how easy it is to turn it will depend on the gloves. You would probably and up using two hands (again, depending on the gloves). Without gloves I personally don't have any problems using it one handed.

Seen it on a white wall indoors, but not that noticeable. Dont notice it outdoors. Not unusual with MT-G2 lights. Ive seen worse. I thought it was good on the K40M.

Thanks Race for the input. I don’t notice the artifact outdoors or in real life either. Guess I’ll just leave it alone then.

It also depends with what kind of idea you do a review.. usually they are more critical when the person pays money for it...I think..

I didn't pay money for mine either, but I wanted to be as honest and Tried to Find cons.. I didn't want to sound like I am writing a "nice review" for the manufacturer, for improving their sales or becoming friends.

Some of the cons are not really important to me honestly, but for some people it might, they might even be a deal breaker for them.Heavy towards the front, no stainless steel, drop output by almost 20% in 10 minutes, not easy to operate with 1 hand, holster can be uncomfortable to use etc.. Just some facts, not really my own pros or cons.

mine was free also - so I had less fear tearing it apart

cons :
no cutout for the thumb
activating switch is possible when in holster (but unlikely)

meh:
heavy
glued screws to access driver
had a scratch on the dome

pro:
simple UI
possible with one hand (works for my wife also)
great build quality
lockout is possible
takes also long cells

I've decided I want this light. Who is our Acebeam BLF contact?

Looking at getting the AceBeam K40M.
For you guys that live in the USA who did you order it from??

I got mine from Wallbuys.

Thanks Joe. order placed
