Review: Sunwayman V11R Mirage (XML U3 AA/14500/CR123A/16340)

The regulation is very evenly spaced, seems to be logarithmic and adopts well to the reception curve of the human eye. There is no “dead space” - maybe the last 2 degrees at full don’t do much, but i think it’s ok. The only complaint i could think of is: The ring has, although very little, axial play. You can push it, maybe 2/10th of a mm back and forth. I’m suspicious, that some grind or dirt may get inside and interfere with the smooth operation of the ring. I don’t know, time will tell. :~

it looks like it slides around a bit as it spins

yes, there is some play.. will add that to the Cons..

? explain.

do you mean it "skips" while you turn it? mine doesnt have that (yet).

Nice review and nice pics.

Thanks.

It looks like the background moves, resulting in the V11R sliding to the right. I guess either you’re not placing the V11R exactly in the same spot for each picture or the lighting changes.

Just looks kind of weird because I’m expecting only movement in the V11R and a static background.

Wow, what an awesome review ChibiM! Is this your first review? I especially like the GIF which is probably a first here on BLF but what would I know since I rarely am online anymore.

Awesome job ChibiM!!!

ChibiM's homemade GIF is pretty impressive. 8)

...and it's nice to see you around, fishinfool.

You like animated GIFs? Shocking! :p

Great review, like the Gif! I justy learned how to do that in photoshop. It's a real nice tool. Looks nice, wish I could afford one right now.

Fantastic review ChibiM!
Hoping to see more reviews from you in the future!

Ah I see, i thought you were talking about using the control ring.

Yes, I better use an even lit white background next time. Or put it on some kind of rotating stand. I turned it around by feeling, but failed.

Still things to learn ;)

@fishinfool: Im not sure but I think this is my 4th-5th review. I've seen the gifs used on BLF before, so I just wanted to try that out.

I love the Mirage V11R’s exterior. It’s so military. The camo pattern is cool.

Thanks a lot for the review! Frontpage’d and Sticky’d.

To my surprise, the ring on my V11R mirage, that I hadnt used for a few weeks was stuck.....

fortunately I could get it loose by using a bit of power...

The next problem was that the ring started spinning... uhmmm

So I tried to unscrew the head with 2 mini rubber strap wrenches.. and voila... they came apart very easily..
I didnt have to use much strength..

Once it was apart, I put some lube under the ring, and while I was at it... I wanted to change the XML to a new XML2 T6 4C,

but when I desoldered it from another star, I accidentally dedomed it.. now the tint doesnt look as nice anymore :(
A bit greener.... at least I will keep it as is... and maybe change it in the future.. at least its very easy to open now.

anyway, your Mirage could also be opened easily???!.

I also tried it with my new V11R revolution.. but I couldnt get it open...
Maybe it is because the Mirage is older, and the glue might have decreased in quality over time.

Oh.. and the alu star is 12mm dia

you use rubber strap wrenches. why can't you get it open? :)

baby boa constrictor strap wrench

i guess the glue is still too strong on the new V11R... I also haven`t used it much.. as I assume the quality of the glue will decrease once the light has been used for many times/heated up many times..

not sure, just assuming.... that seems the most reasonable answer ;)

For me it has been easy to move apart the head on those SWM M/V 10/11 not blackish:

M11R Tan, M11R grey, V11R desert, Mirage, Ti.

Not easy (or impossible) in "blackish": V10R, M10A, V20A. Not intented in V11R Neutral white

Mine is the black v11r, and I can't open it...but it already has NW, and enough grease, so I don't really care too much.

I just wanted to see if it worked.

Would swapping the emitter to the XP-L HI yield better performance ?

Good question.

I've removed the triple, and destroyed the old XML. Now need to get another led, but I'm in the middle of a move, and don't really want to bother too much. There are a few other lights I'm using.

Maybe I'll replace the led when I have moved and have more time.
