COURUI DO1 'Big Head' (Black/GRAY NOW AVAILABLE) $29.99 @ Gearbest ( use coupon: gbcourui) A long-throw modder's light!

You guys talking about modding this light, (or any light for that matter) and with accompanying pics will eventually lead me to start my modding hobby. So far I have been in the ‘pleasure of owning one’ yet. And thanks, btw, for the discussions.

The pcb is spaced deeper into the tail cap with 1/4” thick copper risers to accommodate the double 18350’s in each bay.

Thankyou for that Dale

With the kind permission of FmC, he has this mod on the Courui using XP-G2:

Thanks

Yes I saw that, thanks! subscribed.
Gearbest stalling a little over dispatch, been 4 days ‘processing’ and had some weird email from them saying -
‘Thank you very much for your recent communication. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused.
We have informed our colleague to test the item and speed the shipment up already , could you wait for 1-2 workdays more?’
Do they normally test them before shipping? (or is this just another way of saying they are oos), all seems to be taking a bit of time, always the way when you want something though I suppose!
Got a broken STL-V6 here waiting for a new driver too from HK which is taking a while. Remains to be seen if it works as I couldn’t find the original one anywhere, ended up getting this - 8.4V SST-50 5-Mode Memory Circuit Board for LED Flashlights Torch

As stated in the op, GB should start shipping out the lights (except the gray versions) by Sept. 29th, Shenzhen-time.

Edit: I have edited the title of this thread and copied the “Big Head” nickname as aptly coined by FmC’s thread: Courui Big Head overhaul with XP-G2

Ah, sorry in my rush didn’t see that.
I’d also be interested to know what batteries you guys plan to use in this? I have ordered a nitecore d4 charger but wanted some input on what protected cells to get and from where?
I have read quite a bit so far but it all gets a bit deep… lol.

Where's the gray version?

The first ‘prognosis’ of the gray version was about 10 working days from last week’s announcement, then with the China National Holiday (holiweek?) to start Oct. 1…well, we know the usual effect… Don’t just hold your horses, perhaps let them go back to the barn to rest. Haha

I will keep this thread informed on every pertinent information available. I’m with you with the gray version too, btw.

The first batch of 33 lights will be shipped today.

Well then I must of got lucky and been one of the first ones out, I received my shipping notice around 16:00EST 9/28.

I added a Y3 extension to the order threw customer service so maybe that’s why it went out already.

Edit, can we expect mail to sit during the holiday or will it actually continue to move?

BTW my 3s conversion / totally new buck driver is coming along great, there is a thread about it in the custom mod/DIY section called “buck driver component selection” by tterev3 if you want to watch the progress and see the preliminary spec’s.

Cheerios!

I got a shipping Notification 10 hours ago.

Nice, mine’s on it’s way too.

It all depends on the shipper and its location when the holiday starts. If it is a Chinese company it will definitely sit if it has not left the port. They usually, unless using surface mail, work 10x harder to make up for the lost volume so until they hit the weight barrier they double the efforts.

Hey guys, for anyone who has a courui already, perhaps you’ve seen my thread on the brand new design buck driver I’m making. Anyway I could really use the measurements of the factory driver so I can get to work. Can anyone help me out?

Also if someone has one they don’t mind not using for a few weeks or so I could do an even better job if I had a driver in hand, I would gladly supply you with one of the first ones I get together in return for you sending me yours now.

@Cereal_killer:

I have added the link you posted in the OP. Buck driver design - component selection example

For easier reference to all modders/enthusiasts, the thread below is now added/consolidated in the op:

Teardown and Mod Thread of Courui XML2 Aka “Big Head 3×18650 Side-Switch Thrower” (by LinusHofmann)

I feel like venting a little. So, here is a little rant. Feel free to not read it.

I’m tired of getting tracking numbers that don’t track anything. My Courui is marked as shipped and has a tracking number that I paid $1.99 extra to get. I try to track it and it says nothing found. It seems to be the natural state of the world now that tracking numbers are not updated properly or something. I bought an Olight i3s on eBay on the 10th of September. It had a tracking number assigned to it within a couple days. But, not until yesterday did it show any activity at all (Processed through sort facility). Do people not realize that the reason we want tracking numbers is so that we can actually track something? It’s really worse than not having a number at all, because it creates an expectation. Especially, in this case (the Courui), when I paid extra for the privilege of having tracking available.

Tracking shipments has been done for decades, at least by Fed-Ex and UPS. The technology, the processes, everything has been worked out. If they can do it, by now anybody should be able to. There is no reason why a shipping system can’t get tracking right. As for the seller, they are perpetrating fraud when they give a tracking number that is no good. Perhaps they are generating a label, which provides a tracking number, but holding the package and not shipping it. In that case, keep your worthless tracking number until it is worth something - after you’ve actually shipped my items! Until there is something to track, you aren’t doing me any favor by providing a tracking number to me.

Just to be sure, let me clarify something. I’m not ranting about long delivery times. I know that is just the way it is sometimes. I’ve learned to expect long shipping times and be pleasantly surprised when the shipping time isn’t very long. I just can’t understand why “tracking” isn’t consistently tracking anything so many times. It would seem to be so easy to get it right.

Make sure you are using the real tracking number and not just the order number which looks similiar…
There is vacation in china so I guess all our shipments are on one heap for some days before they get tracked.

I used NL post which isn’t trackable but gives shorter delivery times to my country so I can’t check if it is a singular problem

I like to track my shipments, I have the parcels app and it’s quite fun to have an overview which shipment will income next. But I also like the Christmas like surprise packages I have already forgotten about.
