Flashaholics Anonymous: The Flashlight Purchase Refusal Kudos Thread

I hope not buddy lol

Instead of a diamond did you get her a ring with a LED diode on it???

I got my partner a glowing steampunk necklace illuminated by a tiny slow-pulsing LED. I think I may upgrade it to use a spherical tritium vial though, since the batteries don’t last long and are inconvenient.

Another addiction I’m glad I don’t have. I use some Sony MDR-V6 cans at my music desk and some Etymotic ER-6i earbuds on the go, and that’s plenty.

I hope headphones are not an addiction. I have two sets of wireless, a Sony MDR and a RCA. One hooked up to my TV so I can lsiten to the news as I move about the house and the other hooked up to my computer to be able to listen to webinars and still have mobility. My smartphone which I use for music when I am out of the house is the problem. The best earbuds I have found are the Sony MDR ED12LP. They are not round but more oblong and have small nipples that insert into the ear canal and bring both sound and some stability. The problem is Sony has discontinuted them so they are super expensive when you can find them online. I have tried others of similar design and they don’t work as well. So I have many pairs of earbuds but they are not a collection but rather just failures.

Flashlights on the other hand are an addiction. I find excuses to go out at night so I can bring a flashlight and test it out. Sitting at my desk I often find I have a flashlight in one hand twirling it around like worry beads. Clicking it on and off. I used to take out the battery so as to not waste it’s charge, but now that I have all rechargeable batteries I no longer care about running down the charge. So I guess I am a flashaholic.

You’re a better man than me, Rusty Joe! I bought a Courui due to the GearBest discount thread, and several people recommending it. But, I stand by my (almost) commitment to not buy any more flashlights for a while AFTER I get my BLF Edition X6’s! That means I need to hurry up and buy something else BEFORE they get the X6’s finalized! J)

I haven't bought a single light from a group buy in so long I can't even remember. Every time I want one, I just look back at all the ones I have modded and remember the original quality, (especially the Supbeam disaster). It keeps me from buying any more. Works like a charm.

I guess I don’t need to be in any rush to stuff myself with flashlights before the GB! It seems we’ll be waiting a while and that’s okay. Maybe I’ll even end up going a month without a single flashlight purchase before the X6’s get done. We’ll have to see.

Started by buying “mediums” (SRT-7, PD35, M-22).

Habit got bad with Vostro, SRK, K40 and M6.

Now, I’m cuttting way back (SF5, WK41, S15 & D25C).

Hey, size matters (in rehab)!!!

Well, I failed! I bought a couple flashlights from Tractor Supply just a few days ago. And just today, I signed up for a GB of Eneloops from ChibiM. Still waiting on my Courui to come from Gearbest. If someone’s gonna do an intervention, put me on your list as well! I need it! :open_mouth:

I feel your pain. I only have a couple of flashlights and already feel like that is too many but I find myself continuously buying additional parts and pieces of lights. I recently built a Solarforce L2M Mini which is working so well I have convinced myself that I have to have a second one even though there is no reason why a second one will enhance my life in any way. Funny how these inaniment objects have such power over our lives.

I think I am doing alright. My orders add up to about $150 in the last month, which I feel is reasonable for a major hobby. That is at least 19 orders with two or three items per order average. I like to build up small inexpensive flashlight. I did order one or two lights to use as is this month. Dare I mention the deal alert thread?

This is the last one. I keep saying this over and over and then break my pledge. I ordered another Solarforce L2M and a L2T head to build another L2M Mini. Plus I ordered a cheap L2 body to make another flashlight out of all the extra parts and pieces I have accumulated. The L2M is so cheap it is cheaper than buying the parts and pieces. I have accumulated a couple of spare heads which I thought would be used for parts if I ever need a spare lens. But now I find out I have to purchase some AR coated lenses instead. Will it ever stop!!! :>)

1 year without buying lights, mainly because paypal kept asking me for a credit card, which I do not own…
This should be resolved now…

So I needed a good cheap house flashlight so I ordered a KD C8. Hope it arrives before the end of the year (I did pay for the airmail tracking) but it has been marker backordered for a day now. I wonder if that just means processing? Since I was ordering from KD I added a couple of AR lenses for the Solarforce L2 series. Will see if they actually make a difference.

Yes "backordered" status at KD just means "order processing". Doesn't necessarily mean "out of stock".

Windsurf, have you fallen off the wagon? You’re supposed to be refusing to buy new flashlights, not buying more and more! :stuck_out_tongue: I think you need a therapist. You’re definitely a flashaholic!

:>) Yes your right. I came here for therapy, but it isn’t helping.

Yeah, I thought I had the right answer. I committed to buy some lights from the Eagle Eye X6 GB, and I said I wasn’t going to buy any others until that one produced. If I had kept that commitment, I would have had a very long success streak! But, my resolve was weak. I’ve bought several other lights in between. But now I think I’m gonna be okay until it’s ready for sure. I have plenty to play with for now. We’ll see how long that lasts! Maybe I’ll actually get a month under my belt, at least.

OK - so I think this is my 3rd post on BLF (though 90 or so on CPF) and I am here to say that I will not buy another light until I sell one (or trade). Man o’ man it takes a bit of effort to resist. You’d think I live in a place where darkness is 23 hours long every day.

Then I start reading about some new (to me) buy options here on BLF - Mountain Electronics, for example - give me strength!

Can I buy more if I throw some away? I’m very new to LED flashlights so I still had some of the old incan ones around. The light they put out was embarressing compared to what the LED’s produce. I could see I would never use an incan light ever again so I threw out three of them. So my question is “Do I get credit for throwing out these old ones so maybe I can pick up another LED flashlight?”

I know, I know this is just a sad excuse to justify buying another flashlight. But I have to say it did feel good to get rid of those flashlights. One of the lights thrown away was an old store bought early LED light that didn’t produce much more than the old incan lights. I think that is why I missed the LED revolution. When I heard LED flashlight I associated it with the early versions. I’m glad to have finally found some really powerful LED lights.
