Suitable hosts for 24mm quad optics.

Hi,

sinner has a thread about a new host that he’s making and might offer, and I’ve posted over there about possibility of using his host with the quad setup:

I think that a Small Sun ZY-T29 might work. This pic is just with the Carclo quad optic in the light (not modded yet) to see the fit:

The optic is just about the same diameter as the opening, so probably would need to have a spacer to extend the pill forward.

Also, the ZY-T29 is a side switcher with an electronic switch, so I’m not sure about a driver replace to drive 4 emitters.

Anything with an attiny13 MCU can be flashed with momentary firmware. The BLF-17/20/22s will do 8.5-9A from a single 20R/25R/VTC5 into 3 parallel XPG2s, with 4 LEDs I'd guess that would go up to 10-11A.

17DD in a UF-T50 (momentary side switch):

Switch wires go to pin #2 & ground.

For the record, a Romisen RC-G2 works perfectly, size-wise:

By now many of you have probably seen my quad RGBW A6’s

Notice all the extra wiring? Think wiring one of these for series is a lot? Try wiring them individually addressable.

Has anyone found any other suitable clicky switch hosts for these? What I don’t want is empty space around the optic.

Also I’m using a 35mm cute in both my new EA41 builds (one the production version of pukelight, the other a white only (using a boosted factory driver) triple I’ll be calling the EA41_ck.

Note all of these lights (plus the quad SC02_MELD’s I’m doing) all require custom spacers, the optics are shorter (some by quite a bit) than the factory reflectors*

*i was able to shorten the A6’s instead of building a spacer/new pill.

Ohaya how’s the fit height wise?

Can anyone tell me the height of the quadoptic + the mpcb is?

Rebel quads are 23mm: http://www.luxeonstar.com/sinkpad-23mm-quad-leds
and Rebel um heptas, 7 emitters, are 40mm ….

That is diameter, I want to know height.

7.5mm from bottom of MCPCB to top of optic

Thanks, I wanted to start my work on a vinh-esque p60 drop in before the parts arrive

Do you mean for the RC-G2?

Also is that host in your pic an A6? I have an A6 coming but it is taking FOREVER from farfarled!

EDIT: If you meant/were referring to the RC-G2, I used about a 1/2” length of 1/2” copper coupler (ala ImA4Whlr) to “extend” the original RC-G2 pill and push the quad emitter about 1/2” forward, toward the front (Caveat: It’s in the light already, and I am terrible at ‘eye-balling’ distances, so take that 1/2” with a grain of salt. Basically, the coupler is the difference in the height of the quad board+Carclo optic vs. the original RC-G2 reflector.).

CK's pic is an A6 - that's what he's been working on/with.

Hi Tom,

Maybe if the one I ordered would actually get here, I would’ve known that :)!!! Just kidding :)!!

Mine came from the same FarfarLED guy on DHGate in about 14 days to the midwest. I have an outstanding order from them for more, only at 9 days tho so hopefully they made it to US before this week.

Maybe it is possible fit in the Tiny 26650
but I dont know if the driver works with 4 LEDs. …

If your gonna do that no reason not to use the LEDIL cute quad optic. After seeing the MT swap just posted I’m sure it would work with 4 emitters wires 2s2p for 6v total.

I must’ve lost on the shipping lottery, because mine has been stuck in Guangzhou since 9/20/2014 (coming, hopefully, eventually to the east coast U.S.).

Good point. That makes it a pretty mild boost, which might be easier on the driver (I do not know). Potentially a person could maintain the advantage of the boost driver (consistent output) while getting better efficiency… I’d guestimate that efficiency might improve by 1–4 when compared to 3s1p.

New host I’ll be using (I’ll be doing another RGBW MELD light with the charger port filled with a 5mm UV LED)

Ultrafire AT-008

Can you post some more detailed pics of the inside of the head of that at-008? It is giving be some ideas.
