who wants beryllium springs

I’m in for 20.

Thanks. Generous offer.

Thanks Mattaus this will help me out a lot

What's the alloy used for these springs, there are several beryllium copper alloys.

If they can do this, I'll take 20 for sure!

Sooo, I'm still desperate for springs that do not require copper braiding, what's up with this attempt?

Anyone else who is going to pick this up? Not me, I'm in Europe, someone in the US who has access to the few companies there that make them, or someone with chinese connections.

I found these on Amazon (again for the US-based; they do not ship to Europe anything else but books):

Not the exact type of springs that we want but they would fit some mods?

These might be a better size if cut to length.

I might have a European lead on them. A small danish company specialises in springs for electrical breakers and such. They have ... similar to what we want but not quite.. It may take a single run of them. They do not list MOQ on their site but mentions that it is subject to order details.

Edit: Missing letters and halfwit sentenses. I am tiired!

Funny you're onto that, I asked for a quote from a dutch company also, two days ago. Haven't heard back from them yet, I fear for a steep price...

There are a couple of sellers of BeCu springs on Ebay right now… they look about the right size for a lot of lights.

I tried to find them on ebay and could not find them. Link?

The quote I asked is for 10mm diameter base, 5mm top, 15mm hight 1mm wire thickness conical spring made of beryllium copper. No answer yet.

There seem to be a number of companies that might do this. Here is one.

I contacted one of these companies, but obviously I chose one in the Netherlands and Ledsmoke one in Denmark.

Would also be interested in a bunch. Europe based would suite me just fine.

First one looks expensive with shipping, ships to US only.

Second one is a lot of 100.

To get an estimate we need an idea about size and volume (stay off this please, TP. Remember the forum rules). I’m guessing that a good choice for spring size could get us up over 1000 units without much trouble. Anyone get a response on MOQ yet?

My supplier now asks if I would like to settle for phosfor-bronze springs because they have to acquire the beryllium-copper, looks like a dead end.

BTW, intl-outdoor sells a Be-Cu spring for a good price now, 11mm diameter, 5mm height, so a very short one. I hope Hank will do longer ones as well in the future :-)

There are at least 3 phosphor bronze types as far as I know, rated around 15% which is very good compared to 2% ratings for various stainless steel materials I have seen on some of US spring manufacturer. While some rate some stainless steel alloys up to 15% as a final material (with no mention of actual alloys or use), none of the alloys specifically used for springs according to US manufacturer are rated more than 2%.
All these alloys are not to be taken simple, it is like saying "aluminum" when in reality exact alloy and temper make the final features relevant, not "aluminum alloy" or other ambiguous terms, even "stainless steel" is an ambiguous term, much more than phosphor bronze is.

I have got the quotes for a conical compression spring, base diameter 10mm, top diameter 4.5mm, height 15mm (I figured this is a good size for tail switch springs, and chopped down a bit it is good as driver spring as well):

-200 pieces phosfor-bronze springs: 163 euro (190 dollar), that is a dollar/spring

-200 pieces Be-Cu springs: 1125 euro (1400 dollar), that is 7 dollar/spring

He mentioned that making 2500 pieces is a lot cheaper so I asked for a quote of that as well:

-2500 pieces Be-Cu springs: 1380 euro (1600 dollar), that is 0.64 dollar/spring.

That is very affordable but of course there is no way I can sell 2500 springs to you guys, so that is out of the question for me.

I took some risk and ordered the 200 phosforbronze springs. I will test them for functionality and resistance, and if they are any good I will sell them to whoever wants them (dollar a piece, envelope plus some shipping will be ~3 dollar).

Anyone interested in 2500 Be-Cu springs  ?

Get a quote for 5000 Be-Cu springs let’s see if we can get them down to 0.02 dollars/spring
